Happy New Year everybody!

It’s 2012. Let’s talk about stuff.

Today’s topic? Fashion.

I’ve decided to learn more about fashion. “What? Mike D and Fashion? Impossible!” you are likely stating. “Is this the same Mike D. who once used paper towels as socks?” Things have changed quite a bit since then, dear reader. Stunning, I know.

It all started with an online search into the proper color shoe to wear with a blue suit. I’ve heard passionate arguments for both brown and black but never were arguments presented with any historic context. I need me some history! The quest fo knowledge sent me online where I found a great book by Alan Flusser called “Dressing the Man.” It was in this book that I found the first seemingly legitimate answer: Black shoes is the standard compliment to a blue suit, however recently the Italians have been pushed dark brown shoes into acceptability. Essentially, both are deemed okay.

This simple inquiry lead me to a few new sources of fashion education. Vivienne pointed me to PutThisOn.com which is a great resource for current fashions. Flusser’s “Dressing the Man” is decent, though it’s 10 years old so some of the content may be dated.

I started this year off with some clothes stockpiling buying a few new pairs of nice pants and a wealth of new collared shirts. I’m looking forward to exploring the world of the well dressed man with more gusto in 2012.
