About two years ago I dove into Netflix. I have since changed completely from a physical activity fiend to a couch friend eager for more effortless stimulation.
Jen and I are always looking for some new shows to watch, so I figured I’d come here to see if others had recommendations. Here are a few of the television shows we have enjoyed so far:
Breaking Bad
Alphas
White Collar
Luther
Battlestar Galactica
House of Cards
The Killing
Many have pushed the satirical comedies like Parks and Recreation and Arrested Development, but I just can’t sink my teeth into these. Perhaps my intellect is not sufficient for its subtle comedic allusions.
Any other recommendations out there?
I’ve recently enjoyed both Nikita and Lost Girl; they’re both pretty campy strong-female-lead deals. Same with Alias, but it’s vintage 2001.
Doctor Who (the 2005 series) is pretty excellent if you haven’t seen it yet. There’s Downton Abbey, of course. Freaks and Geeks. And I wouldn’t say I’d RECOMMEND it as such, but Jessica Lange is totally awesome in American Horror Story.
I will watch these and report back. Nikita looks good. I had not heard of Lost Girl, but it’s described as “Supernatural crime drama” ?!?!?
Perfect.
I’ve not written here in so long! But, have you tried The IT Crowd, which is not satirical and dry but just mostly funny. Also, Top Gear is on Netflix I hear.
And you need to watch Justified. Don’t have Netflix, dunno if it’s on there, but it’s worth finding.
Welcome back! I’ll try the IT crowd. I’m sure that I’ll be able to commiserate with the characters. And, I checked: no dice on Justified. I will hunt down another means.
IT crowd is the best show ever! Dwane and I love it!!!
Also: Walking Dead, The Killing, American Horror Story
Prime Suspect! Just finished the complete series and it was stunning. Helen Mirren is a goddess in so many ways.
British television is consistently better than American television. Thanks for the tip!
Alicia and I are very familiar with the instant view. Here are some things we or I have watched and enjoyed:
X-Files
Sherlock (pretty fantastic)
Star Trek TNG
Raising Hope
Dr Who (I can strongly second Andrew here)
Friday Night Lights
Dollhouse (the epitaph episodes make it SUCH a better show)
Buffy (um yeah, we watched every last one)
Jericho (complicated to be a fan of – look into it)
United States of Tara (dark but amazingly well acted and I LOVE Toni Collette anyway)
I’m not sure which of those are up your alley, but I enjoyed all of that list.
I’ve watched the new Doctor Who along with everyone else and I have a suggestion. Just watch one episode, Blink, and then you can pretend the whole series is awesome! The new series is pretty good but I hate some of the long term storylines that the stupid writers are writing in.
I’m currently obsessed with The West Wing, but I acknowledge that I am sometimes a politics nerd. I also recommend Warehouse 13, for something fun, light, silly, historical and sci-fi.
