The Details on the Contest

Thanks again to all those who voted for me in the Roller Derby Announcer Competition. I received a phone call yesterday informing me that I was one of the finalists. I promptly celebrated with a bonus cup of coffee, some high fives amongst the work colleagues, and a cookie. If that isn’t a raucous celebration, I don’t know what is.

Each of the three finalists (I’m not sure who the other two are) will have an opportunity to crash Thursday’s roller derby practice to learn more specifics about the game. Then, come Saturday’s bout, we’ll each act as announcer for two jams. At one-two minutes each, a two jam tally only provides a few minutes to wow the crowd with announcing bravado.

I’m really excited! Regardless of the outcome, I hope I represent myself well in the spotlight. In the grand scheme of things, I am considering this training for that day when I will become a rockstar.

Once the announcing is complete, I’m not sure if the final decision will be put up to public vote, or decided behind the curtain. Nor am I certain when the announcement will be made. I anticipate that we’ll know no later than early next week.

I’m pretty stoked to have made it this far. If you’re interested in coming to the roller derby bout this Saturday, you should! Doors open at 6pm at the Connecticut Sports Center.
