Reasons why I can’t see myself getting into text messages anytime soon:
1. I can’t convince myself that it’s worthwhile to type with text message slang
2. Grammatically correct text messages just take too long to type
3. I just prefer talking in person
I never abbreviate my text messages, they don’t take so long to type with a little practice. I was never super good at the silly autocomplete T3 thing though.
Your third point is a little silly, of course you do… the utility of a text message is that it’s quick, asynchronous, and easy. I know I don’t have conversations with them or anything, just quick things like when I’m trying to meet up with someone or letting katrina know i’m working late.
you’re right. My third point is dumb.

Not only that, but there are any number of situations where talking is completely inappropriate, like during a movie, or in a board room, etc. but texting is quickly becoming acceptable since it is only distracting yourself.
In fact, for better or worse, in business, upper management are are worst offenders of staring down at phones, blackberries, etc. If you want to join the ranks of the business elite Mike, you’ll have to succumb and learn how to multitask like this.
I didn’t say dumb… just silly.
And to be fair texting shorthand is evil.
#2: Obviously you don’t have an iPhone.
I agree.
As i write this comment, i’m texting emily, ordering a latte and updating my debt snowball excel sheet.
Is this why you never responded to “thatched roof cottages!”?
Interestingly, this post was was originated by the unexpected and recent acceptance of texting by my boss.
I suppose it is! I just have a hard time texting folks.
