Jesse sent me a typing test. Take it here. There are five different typing tests. Each is three minutes long. Upon completion, the website will report back your Net words per minute (WPM), % Accuracy, and Gross WPM*
If you find yourself with a spare 15 minutes, give it a shot. Take one attempt at each and report back your results here.
My results:
Zebra
72, 91, 78
Typewriter
94, 95, 98
Irrational
91, 97 ,93
Wizard
91, 95, 95
Tigers
76, 95, 79
Averages:
84.8, 94.6, 88.6
Not too shabby. I found the first one tough as I tried to get used to the format. I found the last one technically challenging for my exhausted fingers.
*Net refers to the amount left over after deductions are made. Gross in inclusive of words typed in error.
Cool. I did the 1 minute zebra one. I got 76 WPM, with a 93% accuracy. Global WPM: 81. I think that’s pretty good given that cognitively, you should be faster at words that you usually use, and I don’t write the word “Etosha” or “Namibia” on a daily basis. I got tripped up a bit on their spelling.
BAD user interface. Why is the “Begin” button in the lower right hand corner, instead of directly underneath the other inputs? Why doesn’t the text input box look anything like a text input box? This gets a D- from the Schenk.
Zebra:
83 WPM(words/minute)
Accuracy: 95%
Gross Speed: 87 WPM
Agreed – it took me over 5 minutes to master the interface. Bah.

Shabby. At least I’m accurate, I guess….
