MSPaint Contest!!

Who doesn’t love MSPaint?

I really don’t know.

This week’s contest is a brutal one. The challenge was to draw your best representation of the phrase REVENGE OF THE TREES using only MSPaint. And draw you did. We have over ten entries, check it out.

NOTE: some of these drawings are large, if it opens to full screen just click the drawing again to return to this screen.

TREE 1: An instant classic! These trees are clearly on a path of destruction.
mike d’s fav. part: the color of the clouds

mike d’s fav. part: the tree’s face. very cartoony, I like it.

TREE 3: Hilarious! I love this!
mike d’s fav. part: This is just insanely clever. A+

TREE 4: Colorful, fun, a work of art no doubt.
mike d’s fav. part: This tree, of all those submitted, has the best leaves in my humble opinion.

TREE 5: The artist of this piece entitled it “Devil in Eden.” The devil is intended to be possessing the tree called “The Forbidden”
mike d’s fav. part: The devil is ellusive. This one takes a minute to figure out, I find this mysterious.

TREE 6: This is by far the most unique of the entries. It appears to be a female tree of doom, on a quest to kill.
mike d’s fav. part: Actually, my fav part of this entry is the funky dog on the right.

TREE 7: This artist gave a quick description of her drawing, I quote:

the reason the trees want revenge is because they are being overharvested and sprayed with chemicals. So they call a meeting and decide to drop all fruit (so that there is none to eat). Obviously some females can adapt to a junk food diet and these are the ones who are paid to keep the species alive. The desired result being a stabilised population where everyone eats a non-fruit diet.

also the cherry on the cupcake is intended to be a Mangel-wurzel. (A vegetable in taste, very similar to very sweet, red beets; in shape, greatly resembling carrots) This was used in the war-time to make fake cherries.

mike d’s fav. part: the round table of trees and the main tree’s face and color.

TREE 8: Oh man. We love the cupcake purple dude. We really do.
mike d’s fav. part: it’s obvious. The purple dude.

TREE 9: These trees have no mercy. None.
mike d’s fav. part: The bulldozer!

TREE 10: Please note: these trees are using Chainsaws. And their facial features are near-perfect.
mike d’s fav. part: The tree on the left. It’s great!

TREE 11: Whoa, impressive shading. I like the color choice and the funky leaf method
mike d’s fav. part: the ground shading

mike d’s fav. part: RAWRG!

TREE 13: Brilliant! I tried forever to think of a way to get “revenge of the sith” into my drawing idea… but came up with nothing. Special props to this artist for achieving this.
mike d’s favorite part: The tree’s blood is clorophyl.

So there we have it. 13 entries.

Please use the comments to vote for….

    Patrick’s thoughts on all entries:

    1) stunning. simple and not too weird. i really dig the jack who seems to be tip-toeing away, as if this is a low-speed chase.

    2) once that girl finds your site… she’s gonna sue. i second the allowance of the cut and paste. otherwise, it’s not as recognizable. the tree reminds me of the Stanford mascot.

    3) yes, it’s the most clever. i like that part. but it also feels weird to pull up an image of a bleeding male torso on the work computer. too much skin!

    4) i’d love to see someone (especially a small child) view this image on a slow-speed computer, where the images load from top to bottom pretty slowly. at first, you’d see these lovely abstract tree with circular leaves, and then, like a Psycho shower scene, we’ve got blood and dismemberment!

    5) wha huh? this one comes with a title and an explanation? too dark for me. i like them fun and simple, and to me, this one is neither.

    6) WTF?

    7) My only thought: if everyone is eating junk food, shouldn’t the people in frames #6 and #7 be really fat, like Jared from Subway? I’m trying to imagine a world in which there are only 2% women. Oh wait, I’m an engineer, I already spend 1/3 of day in that environment.

    8) I love the recurring role of the purple dude. But man, you can still get to work, just use the right lane! I also dig the jack-o-lantern tree.

    9) This reminds me of a political cartoon that some friends and I chalked on the sidewalks while in college. Except we also anthropomorphized the bulldozers who were eating the frightened trees. I like this one. It truly shows a frenetic and vengeful cast of trees.

    10) The tree on the left has a face that is exactly like Cookie Monster’s. Yeah, check that out. Also, by chopping a wooden fence in half, isn’t that like someone finding a dead body and destroying it further?

    11) I’m convinced of two things. First, that this wasn’t probably done using MSPaint (or if it was, it certainly took forever). Secondly, I’m convinced that this is Mike D’s entry, which means that he did use MSPaint and that it did take forever. I think this one is kinda like Guernica, as viewing it from left to right makes it certainly more conflicting (as opposed to it’s mirrored image, which would seem more flowing).

    12) What’d the cupcake ever do to the tree in the first place? (Despite how funny this one is, I’m not voting for it, because Roland didn’t vote for my lazy MSPaint re-hash from the “end of the rainbow” theme). I love how the cherry fell off. Awesome.

    13) I like the abstract orange brick background, and the mini-tree with a limb cut off, and the pose of the larger tree. The little jumping tree reminds me of Slimer or something.

Personal Favorite) #9. I really dig that army of trees led by the general in the bulldozer. (the bulldozer!)

Artistic) As good as #11 is, I’m partial to #1, because it’s detailed, yet simple. And it’s got a nice moving feel to it, especially with that lumberjack.

Hilarity) I’m partial to clever/witty/punny, so #3 wins, despite it’s excessive amount of male model pecs and abs.

I hereby retract my doubt that this is a valid MSPaint. Awesome work, artist #11!

  • 8/24/2006 at 9:07 pm

Personal fave: Tree 11. Give it artistic too.
Tree 12 gets most halarious. Something about those mouths.

  • 8/24/2006 at 9:26 pm

This one was really hard to pick favorites, there were so many good ones.

    personal fave: #9
most artistic: #1 (only because unless it was done by mike d I dont think #11 was done in just paint)
    most hilarious: #3
    most inane: #12

  • 8/25/2006 at 7:10 am

    Personal Favorite: #9 kills me
Most Aristic: #11 which I agree with Patrick, is Mike D’s
Most Hilarious: #12, I like the cherry that’s been nocked off cupcake and #10, which I think was done by Ben Privett and the tree on right’s expression is priceless.

  • 8/25/2006 at 8:04 am

#11 is totally not mikeD’s and it was done in MSPaint. If you remember CUPCAKZILLA! I’m rooting for you in the Fight you big fluffy pastry of doom! Your like Rocky! Bring it back tough and Kick Apollo-Tree’s Roots!!! ADRIAN!!!!

  • 8/25/2006 at 11:14 am

#11 must be Mike D’s. There is no-one else on the planet who has the sheer stubborn willpower to create the awesomeness that is #11 in MsPaint.

  • 8/25/2006 at 11:54 am

#1 isn’t Mike D’s because the artist signed it.
    #2 isn’t Mike D’s because it’s mine.
#3 isn’t Mike D’s because it’s not really his style.
    #4 isn’t Mike D’s because Mike D doesn’t draw stick people.
#5 isn’t Mike D’s because Mike D doesn’t name his drawings, especially with names like “Devil in Eden” and “The Forbidden”. Also, too much cut and paste.
#6 isn’t Mike D’s because, well, I think we all know this isn’t Mike D’s.
#7 isn’t Mike D’s because we know it’s a she and that she isn’t from the US.
#8 isn’t Mike D’s because of the purple dude.
#9 isn’t Mike D’s because of the right half of the drawing. The left half could easily be his, but I think he would have chosen a different color scheme for the right half.
#10 isn’t Mike D’s because it’s too heavy on the spraypaint.
    #12 isn’t Mike D’s because it’s Roland’s (or Ben Privett, if he’s Roland’s clone)
#13 isn’t Mike D’s because he would have made the trees look more like trees, and I think there’s too much orange for a Mike D drawing.

#11 is Mike D’s by process of elimination, plus there are a few clues: Mike D is usually pretty good at action scenes (see clowns and dinosaurs). And he’s done “dark” drawings before (see pirates and kegs). And he’s pretty good with the small details such as the leaves (see the burning skeletons at the other end of the rainbow). The biggest clue for me was the face on the tree, which is reminiscent of some of the faces he’s drawn on vegetables and other inanimate objects. .

Oh, and the color scheme of this drawing matches the color he wants to paint his bedroom: silver/gray, white, and red.

Wow, Patrick, you’ve really given this a lot of thought.

  • 8/28/2006 at 11:00 am

straight up kudos to everyone, I’m in tears from laughing so hard right now. And holy crap to #11 simply wow

    1) favorite #12
    2) artistic #11
    3) again #12 thats just ridiculously funny

  • 8/28/2006 at 2:51 pm

I am inclined to think #11 is Mike D’s as its like his style! But then he could be clever in falsely signing #1 to make us think it isn’t his???

    1) Fav #2
    2) Artistic #11
    3) HIlarious #1

    Congrats to all!

  • 8/28/2006 at 3:10 pm

Favorite: #12. Mainly because of how famous the original cupcake is.
Artistic: #11. Scary enough to turn your leaves white! (But still leave dark roots)
Hilarious: #7. The storyline (twisted as it is) shows that storyboards make it work.

Inane Bonus: #10. Chainsaws used by a tree? That’s just inane.

  • 8/30/2006 at 6:41 pm

The time has come for my vote:

Personal favorite: #13 As I said, I had tried forever for a way to get star wars into this… I think number thirteen deserves serious credit for accomplishing this.
Most Artistic: #4 I stand by the fact that those tree leaves are orbs of brilliance. I don’t think anything can compare.
Most Hilarious: #3. This is far too clever to be skipped in my awards.

Most inane: #2. There was a tie breaker between 2, 8, and 10. 2 just barely won out because it includes Britney Gallivan.

    Well done everyone!! awesome entries!!

  • 8/30/2006 at 8:29 pm
