Timmy, where is the “Congratulations mike d! that’s awesome!”?
I know that WEMBA will be a lot of work. But it will also be rewarding and a great move for my career. I have matured a lot over the past two years and I think that if there’s ever been a time in my life when I am able to accomplish the tasks at hand, now is that time.
As for two degrees at once, why not? I would imagine your response to this question would include points like:
1. too stressful
2. huge academic burden
3. cost
4. homework will rule my life
But I’ve been taking Mech eng classes for a year and they haven’t been the least bit stressful, nor have they been an overwhelming burden… I only spend 1-3 hours on homework a week. My company pays for 3/4 of it, and I’m only taking one class at a time.
RPI will be very stressful. It will be a huge academic burden and its homework WILL rule my life. But with schedules that don’t overlap, an additional 3 hours of homework and 3 hours of class a week is hardly overwhelming. I’m doing the MBA for my career, I’m doing the MS for myself.
Worst case scenario, five weeks in I realize I can’t handle both and drop the Mech Eng work. I think to give up before even trying is worse than trying, failing, and waving the white flag.
What will be even more crazy is if I start taking language classes in Mandorin. Two degrees is nothing when compared to THREE.
For starters, I apologize… Congratulations MikeD! That’s awesome!
However, I’m just trying to make sure that you stay sane and still have time for somewhat of a social life. With my classes, I end up doing 1-2 hours of homework per night, so, I have a different perspective on the homework per week issue.
And I’m not saying that you should give up before trying. I’m just saying that you should pace yourself and give yourself sometime to enjoy life before it goes haywire. Plus, most MBA program admissions officers will recommend that you have 3-5 years work experience prior to beginning a program. That’s why I’m content with waiting because when I finish my MS (51 weeks left!), I will have 3+ years working fulltime in an ME position and will be better suited to learning more about the business world. I know already that with the 2 business courses I’ve taken as electives for the MS that I missed out on some matters/topics because I’ve yet to encounter them in my young career.
Speaking of hacky-sack, I’ve been working on a new serve involving a back-to-back flip with another player. It’s … um… still in progress. I haven’t quite nailed it right yet.
So you’re going to work on two masters degrees concurrently now?
DON’T DO IT!

All of that aside, I wish you the best of luck.
Thanks dude!
I appreciate your concerns, and many of them are totally legit. It will be an experience of wildness to say the least.
If nothing else, you’ll certainly get to read all about the train wreck on this here website.
Hopefully these MBA students will like hacky sack. otherwise… there’s gonna be trouble.
Congrats Mike!
Congrats Mike! Thats super exciting news!
Your a little crazy for doing it, but you’ll totally get through it!
Thanks Mykal! I’m both nervous and excited at the same time.
Thanks Jes! It is a little crazy, but I have high hopes. And I think it will be very rewarding!
