work vs. play

recently I’ve been listening to streaming music while doing my 3-D modeling. I’ve decided that I need to make work more fun, and this is one of the ways that I’m doing it.

Projects are always tons-o-fun for the first two weeks. Then, upon the heavy realization that this project will control your life for the next month or two, everything takes a turn for the worse. If you have any suggestions as to ways that I might be able to funify my work during those last few weeks of a project, I’d love to hear them.

the challenge remains: Using MSPaint draw a picture of a gigantic evil clown attacking either a single dinosaur or a colony of dinosaurs

the deadline fast approaches.

You could always throw in some life/death situations. Like put a barrel of gun powder under your chair, and drag a fuse out through the length of the building to a sufficient distance. Have a co-worker light the end, and if you get a certain job/task done before detonation, you get to go home early. If you can’t get the job done in that period of time, then, well, you’re punished.

You could also try doing stuff while holding your breath (or gagged by co-worker, same thing), blind folded, and while fasting (haha! yeah, right, MikeD not snacking/eating….)

give these a whirl and let me know how it turns out.

I used to stream music at work, too. But now, Company F has this dialoge box that pops up:

“WARNING: Downloading of copyrighted materials (including text, graphic, audio, and video) from the Internet without permission of the copyright owner is in direct violation of Company F policy.

All non-business related streaming media (including radio, music, games, and movies) utilizes excessive network bandwidth, and could be impacting company business.

All Internet access from this system is logged and may be monitored.”

So, Company F knows that I visit your site. And I’m not fired yet!

What I do when I solid-model, especially when I’m listening to music, is I have my model dance around to the music. It’s a lot more graceful than having me dance around. With the spaceballs that we have here, it’s pretty easy and fun to have them dance. And, if it’s possible, you could even make an inpromptu music video.

I like to drop acid. Nothing like programming while a giant toaster dances on my desk.

There is someone that works at the MOS with Jen who has themed days. He wears outfits that fit a theme, for instance today was “1982 uniform day” he wore the uniform that he wore in 1982.
