This morning I woke up to the following IM from my good friend Amanda:
your sister played a solo tonight during the guster/pops concert that absolutely rocked my world! she rules!!!!!!! seriously, i think she might be the coolest person i ever met.
and yes, indeed, Alicia did play with Guster last night and will be playing with them again tonight. Apparently her solo rocked so hard that after the song the Guster guys asked the crowd to give it up to the flute player. huge cheers. I’ll see if I can get her to write a memoir of her rock experience for the website.
Alicia is more of a rockstar than I could ever hope to be. bravo sis!
Also, Happy Birthday to Jesse. he turns 25 today.
UPDATE: The last line of THIS article is referring to my sis.
Yeeeaaaahhhh Alicia!!!! Woohoo!
Dude. That rocks. What was your solo like? Did you meet all the Guster guys?
You are so cool. I am so proud.
wow, the degrees of separation between me and mike d. are 3.
mike d. – alicia – guster – me
well, that’s if you say that i actually “know” guster.
they were playing at the st. louis county fair, and were stuck playing back in the corner, and there were only about 20 people sitting on hay bails watching them (everyone else was at the Beatles tribute band stage).
then a month later, they played in KC, and i met them after the show. when i told them i was at the st. louis county show, they said, “oh, you must be one of our friends then.”
so, if that counts (and i’m sure that it doesn’t) then I know guster. which, by affiliation, means that i know your sister.
I’m impressed, awesome job AliciaD.
I think this deserves an MSPaint drawing of vegetables and kurt
agreed.

Lol. Oh man, this is one of the best yet. Carrots never looked so mean.
So Mike, how old’s your sister. Hook me up! I already have an “in” with the flute thing (what? I never played flute), and if it helps, I’m hung like a horse.
Oh, me.
_Sander
that is some mean looking broccoli.
nice work.
Also, could you find out if Shaun has something against June? Because he’s about to not do an answer for the entirety of June.
In regards to the article: whoa. Alicia’s solo is well-praised and it sounds like the evening was a big turning point for symphony hall. I’m super jealous I missed the event, but Alicia should be very proud.
Hey guys! I’m gonna try to get a pic with the band tonight and maybe hang out with them later…. I’ll write all about it tomorrow! Yay!
June is OUT TO GET ME. That’s right.
I have a wedding to attend (not my own), I’m moving to another state, moving into the first home that I’m actually owning, not renting, Jen is ending the school year for the last time before switching careers, and work is busy-busy.
This adds up to very little Question Answering time.
However, as my high school history teacher often said, “Excuses are the leaning posts of fools.”
So consider this an explanation, not an excuse. I guarantee, as soon as I’m moved and settled in to the new place, a flood of answers unlike anything you’ve ever seen will ensue.
In the mean time, Hippo Birdie Two Ewe, Jesse.
And damn, Alicia, you impress like none other. Well played!
Did y’all see this piece of the Boston Globe’s review of Alicia and the Pops and Guster?
“Happily, the entire wind section was redeemed when one of their ranks loosed a prog-rock solo worthy of Jethro Tull’s Ian Andersen during fan favorite ”Fa Fa.” Screams — the likes of which this venue has surely never heard — ensued.”
Wow.
Thats incredible Alicia. Congrats.
I like Broccoli, but dislike tomatoes and carrots.
