Without any assistance, can you name one historical event that occurred for each month of the year?
World War II
This is a clever loop hole. I commend you.
For the record, my ability to answer this question was paltry. I recognize my knowledge of historic events is severely limited, but my performance here was worse than I could have imagined.
Jan: nope
Feb: Titanic sinking in 1912? Wrong. This was april.
Mar: MLK day? Wrong. Again: april.
Apr: I have two guesses with April events and still couldn’t think of anything for April
May: May day? and Cinco de Mayo? Sadly, I don’t know what events these days actually celebrate.
June: Nope.
July: Signing of the Dec. of Ind. 1776
Aug: Nothing
Sept: Sept11
Oct: nay
Nov: Armistice Day – end of World War I. I had to look up the year (1918)
Dec: Pearl Harbor 1941
So basically 30% success rate for me. Pathetic.
MLK day is actually in January to celebrate his birthday.
Also b/c I worked in RI for two years I know that V-J day (victory over Japan) is in August. I always got a random Monday holiday in August and it was a nice little three day weekend in the summer treat. Almost made up for how shitty working in RI was. Mostly though I’ve got nothing for this game, my historical knowledge recollection skills are severely lacking. I think Guy Fawkes day is an easy one for November, it comes to mind easily b/c of the rhyme. Although is some guy getting arrested for plotting to do something a major historical event?
January: Challenger explosion, 1986
February: Russian Revolution, 1916?
March: Death of Caesar, March 15, a long, long time ago
April: Columbine High School Shooting, 1999
May: Cinco de Mayo (Mexican win over the French in Puebla, Mexico), 1850’s?
June: D-Day, June 6, 1944
July: Lots of easy ones here. 1776, French Revolution, Moon Landing!
August: uhh….
September: 9/11
October: War of the Worlds broadcast, 1930’s? (it was around Halloween)
November: End of WWI, November 11th, 1918
December: Pearl Harbor, December 7th, 1941
Does anything happen in August?
Bravo Patrick! This exercise has taught me that August is an extremely challenging month for general event recollection.
I just thought a historical event in August. There was that one year where this very website did one post an hour for the entire month!
Ahh, close. This was in February. you’re thinking Augustography – a photo a day for all of August.
As for a truly noteworthy event:
The atomic bombs were both dropped in August. August 6th, and August 9th, 1945.
Jan:
Feb: Columbia: I was in Boston visiting friends at BU and Emerson
Mar: Boston Massacre
Apr: Boston Marathon Bombing
May:
Jun: Because of the calendar of the Supreme Court, every recent “landmark” decision is in June (Gay Marriage, ACA, etc).
Jul: A weekish apart: TWA Flight 800 and the Atlanta Olympic Bombing
Aug:
Sep: 9/11
Oct: OJ Simpson Not Guilty – In the school’s lunchroom, they wheeled out a TV and turned it on
Nov: Marine Corp Birthday (their founding)
Dec: Pearl Harbor
Nicely done William! I especially enjoy your June ‘event’
