Unbelievably Oblivious!

I have been driving the exact same commute every weekday for the past eight and a half years.

With 50 work weeks (less 2w vacation) subtract about 7 weeks per year for business travel… that’s 43 weeks. At 5 days a week that 215 days per year. That’s about 1,800 trips to work.

And I just noticed that there’s a cheese shop one street over called “The Cheese Shop”

Whattt?! How did I miss this?!

I would have expected you to have 2 or 3 alternate routes?
    Is this not the case?

A wise observation and a true one. But most of my alternate routes result in changes to my highway usage. This Cheese Shop… this blessed cheese shop… it is in the home stretch of my commute. This Cheese Shop is within 0.5miles of my workplace. Any alternate routes occur long before this point in my travels.

Glory Hallelujah! I promise you I will visit this Cheese Shop.

      I will take pictures.

      There will be cheese.

And it’s definitely not a new cheese shop?

Sounds like you need a do a ‘Hood Hunt.

After participating in a lot of Street Scramble events here in Seattle (which are map-based scavenger hunts, aka urban orienteering), I decided to start making them myself, but on a much smaller scale.

I’ll take a neighborhood in Seattle that’s about 1/2 a square mile and walk around it, noting random stuff in it. Weird sculptures, things painted on mailboxes, names on plaques, whatever.

I’ll then put those spots on a map, distribute to friends, and we all meet up at a certain time to run around the neighborhood and discover stuff. We pick a different neighborhood each time.

Nearest my house, there are a few oddities I didn’t know about before. There’s an electric vehicle plug-in on the street about a block east of my house, near a random dead-end. It’s been there a while, so I’m curious how it got there.

A few blocks south of my house, there’s a yard with a giant 7-foot tall viking helmet. Weird.
