Achilles’ Internet

I am in a perpetually battle march towards chore optimization.

I try to only take right turns into banking facilities. If it can be done without inducing stress, I wait until the last possible opportunity to fill up my gas tank. I try to pay all my bills in a single go. At one point I was even considering only checking my mail once a month to reduce travel time between me and the mailbox. And I’m sure many of you remember the failed sleep reduction experiments.

The way I figure it, those minutes of chorelessness add up over time and maybe over the course of a lifetime they can mean another fun hobby or more time to learn about something sweet.

The problem is that all that goes to crap when you get up in the morning and find yourself watching 11 minutes of MacGyver clips.

I hate you Internet.

I recently enacted a personal plan to always do at least two small chores before I sit down at the computer. It’s a huge success, I no longer feel like I spend all my free time sucked into the internet not doing anything and a the little stupid things I’ve been wanting to do and not doing for months, I finished at least half of them this week.

Seriously though, I hear you on the mailbox trips. I often think about this on the walk back to my home carrying a small stack of junk mail.

I never realized I was so lucky to be spared trips to the mailbox. Ours is right next to the front door and I can reach by just opening the door, no need to even step outside.
