Last night I had an opportunity to swing by a roller derby practice to make sure that I’ve got the rules and players straight in preparation for tomorrow’s announcer showdown. All three of the Roller Derby Announcer candidates were invited, though only two of us showed up: Myself, and Sean Fowler.
I gotta say, Sean is going to be an extremely tough rival. He’s got experience as a karaoke host, and has even done some auditions for voice work in infomercials. On top of that he’s a seasoned skydiver and fire breather, and I read on his website that he’s done capoeira. I read all this as: prime roller derby announcer material. He has a quick wit and a deep radio-like voice. It will be tough.
He and I got along pretty well, he’s a cool guy and really nice. Quite frankly, if I can’t win I won’t be disappointed if he takes the victory. Though I think both of us are hoping that the Roller Girls consider the potential of two announcers.
If you’d like to join the party tomorrow, head over to the Connecticut Sports Center in Woodbridge. The bout starts at 7, doors open at 6. I hope to see you there!
In a duel between Kung Fu and Capoeira who wins? Do not be intimidated, my friend. Go for the gold.
you slipped up a little as Smokehouse Becca went to the box, resulting in a POWERJAM sponsored by UI for the Brutals.
If this was my only error, I’d be stunned. I’ll post more about the experience soon. My general comment is that announcer-dom is really intimidating!
