The Warrior Dash.

Longtime friend Nicole just recently completed the Warrior Dash – a 6 kilometer race through mud, fire, and misery.

Showing off their Guns.

Jump on in, the water's fine

Water, Fire, and... interesting costumes.

Nicole described it as the hardest race she’s ever completed. I asked her what the hardest part was, she replied: ” the one and a half miles running directly up what I was told a double black diamond ski slope”

There’s a map and more pictures located here.

Congratulations Nicole! This looks amazing!

    Oh. My. Goodness.
    Such madness.
That had to have been the LONGEST 3.23 miles EVER.
Why would anyone do that?…Then again, people run marathons…

I think there’s a different one in England. As far as I’m aware, this particular race goes to different cities in the United States.

It looks as if this one was held in New Hampshire.

How crazy is that? Kurt, you must go to the link and you will see stuff that will make you want to sign right up.

    There’s Tough Mudder
    And there’s Warrior Dash

Both are similar events that tour the US, with the Tough Mudder being longer and more challenging.

There was a Warrior Dash in the PNW last month, in Oregon. I would have gone, but I got married instead.

But for me, I get enough of this stuff while orienteering. Steep hills? Check. Mud/wetness/weather? Check. Lots of running? Check. Barbed wire? Sometimes, although in the PNW we have blackberries, which are worse.

No burning hay bales in orienteering, though. But we have the added “thrill” of getting lost.

The Warrior Dash isn’t held outside the US, but there are races held all over the country. Next year, the only one in the northeast will be at Wyndam, NY again. I’ll totally sign up to do it again next year if I am still in the area (but hopefully I’ll have defended my Ph.D. by then and moved on to higher paying pastures), even if that uphill was brutal.
