William Sonoma.

William Sonoma is a wicked wicked place. Nowhere else is there such a plentiful collection of things that I desperately want. Over the past week, I’ve caved on two such desires. The first is a collection of brightly colored ceramic nested bowls (seven total). I’ve been eying these for months now, and when I noticed that they were $60 off in the store I ceased all hesitation and got myself a set. The biggest bowl is bright red and holds 10 quarts (huge!). The smallest is a half cup.

I bought these because they are beautiful. But in the past week I’ve been surprised as to how useful they are during food prep. Upgrading from two mixing bowls to seven allows for a significant improvement in food prep organization.

My second purchase was not on sale. It’s a cutting board and it is visually stunning. Check it out:

Dang.

It’s a hefty inch and a half thick of teak and the end grain pattern is awesome. With a beauty that depends on the particular end grains of the wood, each cutting board of this type is unique. The other boards in the store were so bland compared to the vibrant grains of this one – and I didn’t want to risk losing this piece of art as I’m not sure any other compares.

I’m going to keep one side of the board as a cutting surface and the other side as a presentation surface.

I am very pleased with the advancement of the Kitchen of Rock tools.

I love nesting bowls, but we already have a million mixing bowls so alas I cannot justify buying any anytime soon. I think you’ll also find now that you have nice bowls around they are great for serving dishes too. Transfering food to serving dishes, especially when company is over, always feels so grown up and respectable and adds such a nice feeling to a meal(to me at least). Love the cutting board too!

No pics of the bowls? Can you at least fire off a link so we can see them? Thanks Brozac.

If you want to upgrade your kitchen terminology as well, you can start using “mise en place” instead of “food prep organization”. I love nesting bowls and am heaps jealous.
