Last week I took a day during the week and returned to work for some meetings. Given the unexpected loss of a vacation day, I decided to extend my vacation through today in order to maximize my family time at the Cape.
Today’s plan:
Breakfast and coffee
Sitting on the deck with the Fam
Sailing with Dad D
Beach sitting
Throwing of a football or flying of a kite
Guitar
Barbeque
Homemade ice cream
Board games
Go to bed
Tomorrow’s plan:
Leave Cape Cod at 5am for work.
Arrive at work.
Work.
Leave work.
Chores.
Go to bed
There must be a way to make normal work days more like vacation days. There must be a way.
Some reasonable options:
1) Get a job where you can work from home. Live on the beach.
2) Work at the beach.
3) Become a rock star, thus making “normal work days” better than anything you’ve described thus far.
Hmm. It’s kind of a shame that as of right now my career of choice requires management. It’s hard to manage from a beach.
I’m going to work on this.
I think my comment is going to sound old personish or mom-ish or something but here it is. Granted it’s not spending every day at the beach, but maybe you just need to do a little mental reframing around “chores”. I’d have to say my “chores” time (when I’m home from work before bed) is the best part of my day. Somedays I have to clean the bathroom or spend the night doing dishes which sucks, but mostly I spend the time cooking and eating, spending time with Tom, going to the gym and working on some crafts. All things which are extremely enjoyable to me.
