Little shards of itch

This weekend included, amongst other adventures, a haircut. I’ve hadn’t yet established myself at a barber shop in Connecticut but with my hair length approaching Justin Beiber levels, I figured the time was overdue.

I decided to center my search within West Hartford. For those of you only partially familiar with the banausic townships of the nutmeg state, don’t be fooled by the norm. West Hartford stands tall as one of the hippest places in this state. It has fun shops, higher density youth population, and restaurants aplenty… also, three barber shops within walking proximity.

My end decision was a men-only salon open seven days a week. While my original haircut impression is positive, the final decision is still pending.

All this leads me to today’s point of contention: Showers after haircuts.

Whenever a haircut concludes the hair stylist asks me if I’d like product. I always vote no because the first thing I need to do post haircut is shower. Need. Hair clippings always seem to find their way through the client robe. That they ask this question though makes me curious, do some people not shower immediately after a haircut?

Some of my female friends pointed out that long hair trimming is a little different because the hair is cut below the neckline, which, in my opinion, is the worst offender in post-cut irritation. Additionally, some establishments will wash your hair at cut conclusion which presumably reduces the degree of discomfort. Still, nothing cleans like a shower cleans.

After a cut do you need a prompt rinse, or are you primed and ready for action?

Always, always, shower immediately afterwards. Shampoo twice to get all the tiny loosies out. And the towel I dry off with goes straight into the wash.

I typcially time my haircuts so they align with an important affair later that evening. That way I can leave work, get my hair cut, go home, shower, and enjoy the evening freshly groomed and scrubbed.

Always shower right after if possible. Though there have been times that I get a hair cut in the middle of a day of errands and do not have time to. There was one time when I got home I was so wiped I just went to bed. Bad move, sheets needed to be cleaned for fear of itching for days upon days.

I always shower soon after a cut, b/c as you said so itchy. Although it’s kind of waste I do let my stylist put product in my hair, just b/c she styles it so much better than I do, and it’ll look nice for a whole hour before I shower it out.

I try to keep it looking good for as long as possible. I have short hair and I do get a lot of tiny hairs sticking into my skin, mostly because my stylist is a perfectionist. I usually just change my clothes or you can put baby powder on and that usually kills the itch. So, if you want to maintain the style for a little longer those are some tips!

My hair is about shoulder length, so I don’t get those shards of itchy hair anymore, but I definitely would when I had a really short haircut, especially if they used buzzers on the back. If I couldn’t shower I would bring a different shirt to change into in the bathroom.
