Disney World!!!

I came to Orlando for work this morning and BANG. Just like that I’m on the doorsteps of Disney.

I must admit, I didn’t really want to spend the $80 to get into the park, so my coworker and I went to ‘Downtown Disney’ which is a fun place to walk around and get some food. We ate at Wolfgang Puck and took some pictures.

Tis a shame it was not smashing into other giant robots.

It wouldn't be a Mike D picture without a 10 degree slant.

We’re planning on leaving on a 1:30pm flight tomorrow (Friday), though there’s a slight possibility that we won’t be able to get a seat and we’ll be stuck here (gasp! no!) until 7pm. If that’s the case, I might drop the dough to enter the Disney park proper. We’ll see!

Mykal, I can’t seem to find Saturn, is it late rising?

Saturn is out in the southeastern sky in the evening with a transit around midnight. I can’t see that part of the sky unless I make a special trip out somewhere with out trees over that way though, so I haven’t been keeping track. I’ve been reading the night sky this week updates from the US Navy and I’ve become a huge fan, find them here: http://www.usno.navy.mil/USNO/tours-events/sky-this-week/

Also I checked out an astronomy magazine at the library the other day and it sounds like the view of Saturns rings will get more and more awesome as the summer goes on (view of the rings is straight on now and will tilt more as time passes). So it’d be cool to see some photos from the spring and then as the year progresses.

Wait, is that an Optimus Prime Lego robot behind you in the first picture? Where’s my Optimus photo? I don’t mind if it did have a 20 degree tilt!

It does look a little Optimus Prime doesn’t it? It’s actually a dinosaur.

I still should have taken a picture of it though. tilted or not, dinosaurs are better than no dinosaurs.

MikeD, the Internet here to bring you a solution!

I would recommend using World Wide Telescope to see where Saturn will be from your location at a specific day and time. You’ll be able to get the RA and Declination and hopefully dial into your real life telescope!
