Leaning Tower of D.

It seems I have a problem. Sarah T. and I just returned from an epic trip to Bend, OR for two days of hiking through Smith Rock park and the Painted Hills. I was especially excited about this trip because it would provide me with an opportunity to try some landscape photography. As it turns out, I am terrible at landscape photography.

Exhibit A: A man-made lake in Detroit, OR

Exhibit B: Sarah T. posed on a short walkway amidst some red hills

Exhibit C: Some climbers ascending Monkey Face at Smith Rock State Park

Do you notice the trend?

Exhibit D: A measured demonstration of my ineptitude

Alignment issues
10 freakin' degrees

What is my problem? As far as I’m aware, my legs are of equal length and my eyes are not severely crossed, yet these pictures show some dramatic tilt-action going on. Ten degrees! Geeze.

I’ll be posting some of the more successful pictures (read: those that Sarah took) tomorrow.

Paint may not be able to fix these but there are many other programs that can help. Or use a tripod…

Possibly your camera is out of whack. Could be the internals are adjusted off kilter that caused such shoddy camera work. Or you might have been wearing your shoes on the wrong feet.

Apparently Mike hasn’t told his readers that he has orthopedic shoes to make up for the fact that his left leg is 2 inches shorter than his right leg. I guess they don’t make orthopedic hiking boots, thus the 10 degree tilt.

Two ideas, could you try lining up the horizon with the camera focus points or work on your camera holding technique. Or just let Sarah take all your vacation photos.

Ha, this is really common when you first start using the SLR… honestly, don’t sweat it. Photoshop can straighten horizons and just start reminding yourself to straighten up that horizon in the viewfinder.

Misjudging level is really easy to do, I assure you that most people have this issue at first.

    And, of course, ignore Ian.

    I agree with Ben.

But the fact of the matter is….you are Fat. You shift the horizon 10 degress wherever you go. Its nothing losing a couple hundred pounds won’t fix. nice photos Tubby.
