I disagree. I know it’s amusing to make fun of NJ, but it’s actually not a bad place! NJ just lacks a good flagship city. Fortunately, it’s not far from NYC and Philly, and MA is within reasonable proximity. That said, you don’t need to leave the state to have fun. I always have good trips there.
Lots of awesome bands hail from NJ too!
Ted, are you from New Jersey? Most everyone I know from New Jersey (myself included) have just given up defending it by now. Long live paint factories and pharmaceutical companies!
Nope, I’m from Boston!
I will say that I’ve only had the pleasure of experiencing good things about NJ. I only go for fun times, which includes visiting friends, hanging at the beach, and getting sandwiches at Wawa. So, from an outsiders perspective, it’s fine, but who knows what horrors exist for residents?
Having been trapped in Newark when a snowstorm shut down my home airport last December, I will say that I feel fairly confident about this chart’s accuracy.
I’ve given up defending it too (NJ native), but I still let out an “awwww maaaaan” whenever I see something like this.
I will stand behind the fact that a lot of awesome bands hail from NJ though. Right on.
I stand by this chart. ESPECIALLY when it comes to travel. Did you know that as of August 2009 nearly 25% of Newark flights are delayed for departure? Way to go New Jersey!

Though it should be noted that Newark isn’t the worst offender. It’s #5.
I write this as I sit in the airport experience Newark delays first hand.
I think I hate New Jersey.
