True to life.

Apparently when Shamus and Jen were debating redoing their bedroom, Shamus’ dad up and grabbed a hammer and put it through the bedroom wall and just like that – the decision was made.

Sometimes the hardest part of a process is deciding to go for it… and you might need someone else to put that first hole in the wall. Once the first step is taken, to get to the end it’s just one foot in front of the other.

On Saturday I showed up in NJ with a Uhaul full of stuff. Everything was going fine until it came time to try the two couches. They are the same size, and that size is “way too freakin’ big to take the corner at the top of the stairs in the tiny hallway to this apartment”.

So I had a choice. 1) Throw away two perfectly good couches or 2) possibly destroy one in an attempt to see if it was possible to get it up here. I deliberated for a long time – too long – so then I just pulled the trigger by slashing some of the upholstery just to make sure there was no turning back.

Box cutter + needlenose pliers + big hammer + circular saw + $20 in brackets from Home Depot + industrial stapler = usable (though slightly less upholstered) couch.

We were planning on using a slip cover anyway, so we’re good as gravy, though I don’t have the gusto to do it a second time. BTW, if anyone will be traveling through Central NJ and wants to pick up a couch, there is a perfectly good one sitting on the curb outside our apartment… and it’s not supposed to rain for like a week.

Someone took just the cushions. Who would do that?

…and threw M&M’s all over it which then melted. Now that it’s been treated like trash, I guess it’s trash, and I find that sad since we were trying to give it away on Craigslist, and MAN was it comfortable.
