disc golf

This past weekend Jesse and I hit up a disc golf course just outside of Waterbury. This was my second trip out, and it’s confirmed: I totally love disc golf.

Disc golf holes are just about as long as real golf holes. On our first trip out Shaun L, Shamus, Jesse and I played in Manchester, CT at Wickham park. The course was beautiful. Instead of a tee, you have a platform from which you throw your frisbee and instead of holes there are raised chain buckets into which you throw your frisbee.

To celebrate my entrance into this exciting new hobby, I purchased a few discs from the Disc Golf Center. I bought a Starfire driver and a Wizard putter. The drivers are obviously long distance discs and the putters are more meant to be tossed in a push-like manner than thrown. AND! It turns out that there are courses all over the place!! If you’d like to find one near you, check out the Professional Disc Golf Association website here.

Awesome!

For a fantastic video (including a shot of some 400′ plus drives) check this out.

Drivers are a lot of fun to just throw for distance. Don’t try and catch one though. ouch. They also make drivers specifically for hooks and draws. which is really cool.

But the real reason I comment… “meant to be tossed in a push-like manner then thrown” Than thrown… c’mon, MikeD

Last month, I went orienteering in a park in the Portland area that had a disc golf course. Before we embarked on our adventure, we were warned to look for flying discs. Nothing like emerging from the woods and then being decapitated!
