The Beginning of the End

A few years back Jocelyn sold me her Nissan Altima. What a nice little car! It took some tender appreciation and a fair amount of time in a shop before it could be considered a fully operational battlestation four door sedan, but it got there and it’s been faithful for 60,000 miles.

Sadly, it’s beginning to show its age; the CV joints need replacing and there’s a vague smell of burning when you drive for more than 6 feet. It might not be anything to worry about but I figured I’d throw out the obligatory MikeDiDonato.com proclaimation: if you know anyone who’s trying to sell a car for cheap, fire me an e-mail – MikeDiDonato AT gmail D0T com.

Perhaps we can work something out. This little beast won’t last forever, so it’s probably best if I start looking at replacements now.

The other option would, of course, be to buy a smart car. Though it might be tricky to fit a bo staff into a smart car.

how is a smart car the other option?

there are plenty of other smallish cars out there that bo staffs can fit into..

well, I guess it’s not really an option. I don’t want to buy new. But if I had hoards of cash, then I might consider one for the image, uniqueness, and reduced stress of parking.

    Nissan Cube?
    Kia Soul?
    Mini Cooper?
    Mini Cooper Clubman?

With a Smart car, you have reduced stress parking, but increased stress whenever you want to carry around anything. Also, the gas savings of the current Smart cars aren’t all that great compared to other sub-compact cars. The diesel verson, on the other hand, is awesome on MPG, but they don’t sell that in the US….

    you need a nissan cube.
    or a scion xb.

basically boxes on wheels with 4 cylinder engines that will have room for all your gear and as many bo staffs as your heart desires.

What you need is a scooter, one that you ride around on ALL YEAR round. That way you wouldn’t just be “that guy on a scooter” you’d be “that CRAZY guy on a scooter.”

strangely, I find the cube and the scion xb to be completely hideous, but I love the look of the smart car.

    This can not be explained.

In my opinion, in the Smart car, you also have increased stress whenever you drive on the highway. Seeing those things next to tractor trailers terrifies me.
