SERENITY.

Last night, at Vivienne’s place, Sarah, Viv, and I watched SERENITY – the movie which concludes the firefly series. Whoa whoa whoa. If you haven’t already seen it, don’t watch the movie without first watching the series – it won’t make much sense. That said, if you have seen the series then you will very strongly appreciate the intensity that is everything Serenity.

Mild spoilers after the break.

HOLY CRAP RIVER IS AWESOME. The Reavers? The assasin? Gaaaah!! I love the scene when the Captain gets his game face on and just glows with command. I felt that some of the hand-to-hand combat scenes were a bit contrived, and I was disappointed that we didn’t get more background with the Shepherd. The beginning felt a little slow, but they did such a great job of sewing up the loose story lines. And the final run from the planet might be the most awesome moment in movie history.

I was hoping that River might be able to use some mental force to annihilate everything. Kind of like a tsunami of mental crushing death. But, that didn’t happen. Although I wasn’t disappointed with the director’s method of her rocking the kasbah.

Bravo Joss Whedon! Bravo!

Hey, maybe there should be a mikedidonato.com petition to try to get Joss Whedon to make a spin-off movie about the bounty hunter guy from the last episode of Firefly. It could be called “The Bounty Hunter,” or just “Awesome.”

Can you imagine a whole movie of that guy?! Oh man, I think my head might explode.

I just watched the series and movie over again over the past few weeks and was just reminded of Early the Bounty Hunter.

Oh, and MikeD, 4 years is way past the statue of limitations for spoiler alerts! :)

I started watching Firefly off hulu when you recommended it about a month ago. And, I suppose we were on the same watch rate because I just saw the movie last week when school left out and I was bored waiting for people to get out of work.

Dark Horse actually made a 3 part comic book that a friend dropped off for me last week. Out of the comic, movie, and serial, the comic is the worst. The comics were meant to fill in the fictional year between the stories in the serial and the movie, but it does a thoroughly ambiguous job of what happened to Inara and Shepherd in that interim time. Basically, the story focuses on the blue-gloved dudes (who turn out to be androids, but we never find out what becomes of them in the comic or movie) and they recruit the bounty hunter from the first episode that Mal shoots in the head (at 1:15 in that episode, very BA) when he tries to turn everyone into the Alliance. The firefly crew escapes the villains. The end. I just saved you the effort of looking for the back issues.

I wanted to see Serenity in the theater purely because it was a sci-fi movie but thankfully one of my friends convinced me to watch all of Firefly first and THEN the movie and it was sooooo awesome.
