A close friend of mine is working on a project for work. He has been assigned the unique task of coming up with a standard procedure to provide code names for his company’s top-secret projects. I am certain that the MikeDiDonato.com reader base can come up with some absurdly fantastic methods of generating code names.
My ideas:
Bird of prey followed by a constellation: Eagle Orion
Currency followed by Greek or Roman God: Euro Zues
My name preceded by a word of praise: Awesome Mike D.
Peanuts Character preceded by a color: Green Lucy
X-men character followed by the word ‘boots’ : Cyclops boots
Cloud type followed by famous mathematician: Stratus Pythagoras
Oh… I think you should go to wikipedia and select “random article”
Use the first word in the first two articles you get. Using this I got:
Bongo Weathman
Wolverhampton Doom
Photochemical Swallow
OED Word of the day?
http://www.oed.com/cgi/display/wotd
My favorite is Decepticon names. Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, Bonecrusher. The list is surpisingly long.
In Dollhouse they use the NATO phonetic alphabet. So how about that followed by trees:
Foxtrot Elm
Zulu Evergreen
Tango Birch
Bravo Maple
I use that to name my hard drives. “Charlie” gets a lot of use.
I think the color with Peanuts character works exceptionally, but that’s too limited (how many Peanuts characters are there?). May I suggest an herb followed by a number:
Rosemary Seven
Basil Three
Cumin Forty-Five
If you tap into Indian spices, the list is infinite.
How about naming them after washed up 80s stars? That list is also infinite.
I like this method.
Metric system prefix plus Muppet name
e.g. Hecto Fozzy
Nano Animal
What about just a generic candy name.
Project Butterscotch
Project Toffee
Project Starlight Mint
Project Red Rope Licorice
Its catchy, tasty and Secretive. Everyone wins! Except the diabetics.
I like the Metal Gear Solid method of assigning code names, a color and an animal.
At the Day Camp I used to work for I was known as Kevin “the White Fox” O’Brien.
Purple Turtle
Orange Swordfish
Swamp Green Sasquash
NATO brevity codes all the way… especially Bogey dope
How about rhyming plant and animal names?
Spruce Goose (obviously)
Tare Hare
Lilly Filly
Peach Beech
Flax Yak
Kola Koala
Madder Adder
Cumin Human
Cyprus Brontosaurus
