Ukraine!

Okay. It’s going down.

After Christmas I’m going to visit Jess in Ukraine. This is exciting because I will not be even remotely close to work. It’s going to be cold and I hope there will be hard manual labor there. I hope to be nowhere near a computer and my phone won’t work. The heat will be from a log fire and Jess has reported that she will try and keep some logs uncut so that I can chop wood. There’s no indoor plumbing, potatoes are served at (as?) every meal, and I hope to buy one of those awesome russian hats. At this point in time I’m expecting a 10 day trip to Eastern Europe.

In order to help plan the process, Jess sent me a telephone number so I could keep her updated on plane times etc. After she sent me the number she sent me this note:

Hey! I am thinking I messed up and gave you a number to Azerbaijan. I do that a lot.

A common mistake indeed. ha!

Woo! how exciting!

I work with a woman from the Ukraine. I told her WHERE you are going and more importantly WHEN you are going, and these were her exact words “What? Is your friend without a brain in his head?! There are no trains that go, maybe not even roads at this time. There will be no toilet, maybe no food. I hope he survives.”

    WOWSAH! Good luck buddy.

It’s really fun if you pronounce this phonetically as written, at the lengths implied.

    A- WEEEEEE-SOOOOOOOO-MEEEE!
    “AH- WE- SUE- ME”

I can’t even count the number of times I’ve accidentally been given a number to Azerbaijan. Luckily the people there are friendly. I think they do the customer service for my phone company.

It’s true, everything she said. Mike, we’re going to walk the 400 km from Kiev to Alt. and we are eating the paint off the houses right now. Don’t know what we’ll be eating when you get here…I’m only saying this because I know you already bought your tickets. mwah ah ah ahhh

This sounds awesome! It’s like combining winter camping and a dozen or so people you can’t communicate with. Good luck and take lots of pictures. Oh, and enjoy their salamis and heavily salted fish. They tend to have a lot of that from my understanding when they are not eating potatoes.

They can communicate. But they may choose not to. At any rate it should be better than Ohio.
