Appliance 2008!

Every year since my college graduation, I have purchased a yearly appliance. The goal of this exercise is partially self indulgence and partially an effort to transition from a really cheap college student who once used paper towels as socks to survive another day without the expensive 75 cents laundry machine, to a stable middle class citizen who can indulge in an occasional luxury.

Let’s look at the appliances of the past:

2004: Rice Cooker
2005: Dyson Vacuum Cleaner
2006: Kitchen Aid 5 Qt Mixer
2007: Dish washer

And now, dear readers, I present to you the Appliance of 2008.

An espresso machine! DANG! look at that thing reflect its middle class shine!

My sister Tree visited me this past weekend and showed me the ropes. Her coffee shop history helped me learn how to make a decent mocha and a really fabulous caramel iced coffee thing. Admittedly, I’m still learning the ways so my beverages have been coming out a bit bitter. But soon I will master this little guy and I will be able to be a great host to any caffeine addicted guests.

What’s in store for 2009? Only time will tell.

Update:
It should be noted that Darcy was the finder of the espresso machine deal. In fact, she also got one. She and I are now Espresso and Kitchen Aid siblings.

MikeD….I hate to tell you this…But once you purchased an espresso machine and not a normal coffee machine you completly left middle class in the dust. I know of no middle class families that OWN their very own espresso machine. Welcome to High Class my friend…Welcome.

I like how you didn’t say “upper class”, only “high class”, i.e. “the appearance of wealth” and not “of the wealthy”.

Roland, this is true. Sad, but true. There was no one more horrified than me, his mother.
