Being Single is like Being Unemployed.

Some people don’t really care too much about being unemployed. They collect their unemployment checks and when the next job rolls around, they’ll work it for a little bit and if the get laid off, they’ll just go back to being themselves again. Other people are looking through the papers every day in search of that perfect job. They go to interviews and lose sleep over the lack of work. Some people always seem to have a job. They get new job offers before they even leave their current work. Some people even work a few jobs at once. It’s tough and can be exhausting, but they figure the benefits of the two jobs outweigh the burdens.

There are some jobs that are better for the long term. Others that work really well to get you some quick cash. Once in a job, it can be awkward and tough to leave for a better one… especially if you’re not sure the quality of the new job. Will it be mentally stimulating? Will it challenge you? What are the benefits?

It’s very difficult to understand what it’s like to be unemployed if you’ve got a totally sweet job.

Good job. I wish my job didn’t have so much overtime.

Dude. If overtime is the only thing keeping you at your job, ditch it! It got to the point where one of the few things keeping me at my old job was unlimited access to their machine shop. Not a very good reason to stay at a job, if you’re a computer programmer. I’m so happy with my new job it’s great! (Although I do miss that machine shop…)

One major difference: leaving one job in order to take another job is seen as practical and safe. Doing so in relationships just makes you a jerk.

I think leaving relationships can be really practical as well. It depends on the situation.

Leaving a company can be super Jerklike. Especially if you leave completely unexpectedly and leave a ton of loose ends.

The real problem is that during the overtime the machine shop isn’t always open. Then it’s just overtime without machination. And we know guys are only in it for the machination.
