Asparagus will turn your pee a disgusting scent if you eat a lot of it, I guess. I wouldn’t know. I hate the stuff. I think it tastes gross, but the book tells me to eat nothing but asparagus all day. I didn’t eat only asparagus, I had a few modifications. I had little omelet cups with asparagus in it, and for lunch I made a asparagus with chicken roll up. Then for dinner I had some steak but with a ton of asparagus. And let me tell you, it really does work. It smelt horrible. I’m sure you all wanted to know that.

I like asparagus, and can confirm your findings. It smells wicked gross.
I’ve heard it’s only a percentage of the population who end up with smelly pee, and a separate fraction who can smell it. They are seemingly unrelated, so you can fall into four categories:
1) Don’t make it, can’t smell it
2) Don’t make it, can smell it
3) Make it, can’t smell it
4) Make it, smell it
You, just like me, are lucky #4’s
I just read on Wikipedia that recent studies say everyone makes it, only a fraction smell it. I’m not sure what to believe…

I found out from my college biochemistry class that asparagus makes your urine smell because it’s rich in the amino acid asparagine. (Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins) It’s so rich in asparagine that your body can’t process it all and it comes out in your urine as waste.
