Red. A color of Excitement.

Last week while in Texas, I visited a contemporary art exhibit at the Houston Contemporary Art Museum that was featuring Sam Gilliam. Mr. Gilliam is a guy who worked mostly with acrylics on tapestry and canvas.

While strolling around the exhibit I came to the sudden realization that Red is my favorite color. Gilliam worked in all sorts of colors, but it was his red works that I couldn’t stop looking at. They were so vibrant and fantastic!

Here’s a time line of Mike D and his favorite colors

oh so colorful!

What’s your favorite color? did you have a moment of color enlightenment?

I like green. I always have.

I do remember in like 3rd grade it was cool to like black as your favorite color.

I know I don’t have a favorite individual color. I know do like what I call “Comic Book Colors”. Red, Blue, Yellow, Purple, Green and Orange. Its not the rainbow because i dislike indigo. I got nothing against shades but I find that the true unadaulterated (sp?) colors make me happy. Take your periwinkle blue and shove it!

I remember purple was my favorite color up until middle school when purple became the “gay” color and I had to pick a new one – since then blue has been my favorite, except when red is my favorite.

I have always preferred blue to any other color. Except midnight blue, which I never liked.

Blue is the easiest color to look at (and most melancholy) because the human eye has the least amount of blue receptors of all the primary colors.

I’ve always preferred blue. I used to dislike red, but nowadays I do actually like it in some contexts.

My favorite color is white. I love other colors (bright happy tropical colors) but always come back to white.

I typically answer green as my favorited, like the rind of a lime.
But I’m also a fan of the richer darker colors, like midnight blue, crimson, and super-deep black…the kind that is way darker than regular black, the kind that sucks all things light and good from your life, the kind you can only find in Ohio.
    Good thing I’m here, then.

    hah!
I’d have to be a lot thinner to be Drew Carey. But nice try.

    Also, better-looking.

    I LOVE IT.

I find myself with a growing appreciation for minimalist sort of stuff. This is great!

Ok, but you’re a lot funnier if I have Drew Carey’s voice in my head when I read your comments.

Red is the best. Red knows it’s the best. Red thinks you are a traitor, and doesn’t really care if you like it now, because red doesn’t need you one bit. Red told me to write this.

Hmmm… right now I’m into gray (boring, but underrated). I know I was a black fan in kindergarten, and alternated between red and black all through elementary and middle school (luckily, the Chicago Bulls were unstoppable then, so it worked out). In high school I switched to green, stayed with it through college, and now I’ve been back in the brown/gray/black realm for quite some time. It’s just more slimming.
