We need some adventure over here.

I’ve been thinking more about the design of my cubicle. And frankly, the gray walls just aren’t doing it for me.

I think I need some wall paper. I did a Google search for Cube Wallpaper and stumbled upon Cube Chic! It’s a book that helps you “Take Your Office Space from Drab to Fab.”

check it out.

It looks like the first step to this madness is to come up with a theme.
As I look around my office I see the following:

Rock climbing calender
Boat photograph
Sweet pipe painting
Two wooden shelves
lots of miscellaneous paintings
some paperweight sized rocks
and gray.

Everything else is gray. A gray desk, chair, guest chairs… everything.

Obvious theme choices would be Rock Climbing, or Rock in general. But I’m not sure how much I could develop this space with either of those themes.

Reader Suggestions?

First, why are you using Amazon Canada?

Second, I would totally take you on because my beige cube walls are wearing on me since its so nice outside. I would say that we should have a cubicle design challenge for all cube dwelling readers but i fear that it would quickly spiral out of control and take out half of new mexico.

That said, I don’t care about new mexico and I’m up for a challenge.

Stick tiny lumps of modelling clay onto the cubical to create a miniature climbing wall, then have an action figure(s) scaling it.

It’s on Jon Abad. It’s on.

Anyone else want in on Cubical Challenge 2007?

if i had a cubical i would totally be in on the challenge, but instead I have two very blank walls in the office that i share. We also dont have any windows. My only view of the outside world is through half of the window from the office across the hall who’s window looks out onto a random road.

I will submit my services to be a judge for this competition. I will take notes and come up with a form to be filled out. Maybe a little essay be each competitor about the current state of the cube then an essay about how they feel after a week of the new cube.

    No essays.
I submit that we should do a before and after picture with some explanation of our theme or some such.

One word… Rasterbation. Sounds dirty, but really its super sweet. http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/ is a site with a rasterbation program. You upload a picture and it converts into a humongous version of your picture made of various sized dots. It turns it into a PDF and you print it out on a normal computer in pages. You could come up with some crazy design and plaster your cubical walls. See website for example pictures.

I did this in my dorm thanks to Tony W.’s suggestion. I downloaded a picture of a sweet guitar from the rock and roll hall of fame’s website and converted it to a giant guitar that spanned 15 feet. It was very Rock and roll.

If you are interested in a second judge I would be glad to participate! If you are already sitting in a backdrop of gray I would focus on the boat photograph to bring more color in to your space…I hope you don’t mind me popping in to your conversation. ;)

    Oh man! Its so on!

MikeD, I’m taking “Before” pictures this week! I tried taking them last week but they came out blurry.

How about we set a date for the reveal? We’re busy people and I plan on working on this on weekends… how about 1 month?
