Midterms and Metal

I got my Dynamics midterm back last night. I got a 13/35. That’s about a 37%

Not too shabby if you ask me!!

In other news Sander was here at work a little late last night and, following my lead, turned some music on and hit the intercom button. Moments later “Aces high” by Iron Maiden was shaking the shop floor and Sander was Rocking out!

Unfortunately, Sander wasn’t the only one in the building.

It’s unlikely the other engineers who were working late and fighting deadlines appreciated the Heavy Metal interlude.

Zong Dong Trong Teaching you Dynamics???

(I think that was his name, our Calc III teacher who’s average test score was like 12% and would cheer at that. Also, you were a jerk to take a 2nd class at the same time or something and negate the Trongification of your GPA)

37%…. yessssss. I’ve had a few classes where the average scores were sub-50%.

I also took a graduate-level elective class as a second-semester senior… during the senior design team stuff that took 80 hours a week. My roommate (and fellow design team member) was also in that class, and we were the only non-graduate students in the class (read: we were the only ones who didn’t have any time to study for this class).

Anyway, before giving back the first midterm, the professor writes all of the scores from the test on the board, the higher scores to the right, lower to the left. Most scores were in the 75-85 range. There was one in the 90’s. There were two in the 60’s.

And then there was a 27 and a 19. As soon as we saw those two scores, we looked at each other. “Which one of us got the 27?” we asked each other. It wasn’t me.

I think the average on my heat transfer midterm last year was around 45…and our prof “doesn’t believe in curving” so almost the entire class got warning letters after midterm grades came out saying we were failing…

When we asked if he’d curve the test, he gave this big long speech about how our grades need to honestly reflect our intelligence, and he’d be doing us a disservice if he bumped up the grades. Apparently, according to him, there’s no way that *he made a mistake* in giving too difficult a test, and *clearly* we all were lazy or stupid.

Sweet, thanks for the self esteem boost Dr. Aziz!
