AFRICA MAP QUIZ!

After all the fun and thrills of the South American quiz, here’s an africa version.

If you’re feeling advanced, try and fill in this map here.

If you need a little help and can read Excel files follow this link here, and use the country names at the bottom to fill in the slots on the right.
Once you’ve done your darndest, use your mouse to highlight columns G through M. Right click, and select UNHIDE. The answers will appear next to the numbers.

Sassy eh?

Good luck!

While I suspect there may only be a handful of persons who give this a shot, post your score in the comments! Me? I got 14. But some of that was guessing… and I did JUST MSPaint an africa map… so my score probably shouldn’t count. Also, two bonus points if you successfully can identify Namibia, the current location of Angelina Jolie.

I know I’ll probably feel the wrath of Alicia (and others) on this one…

    But I got 47 of 47.

I don’t know very many capitals in Africa (the only reason I know the South American ones was because of this silly rap we had to sing in high school Spanish class…)

I didn’t do any guessing, but I was a little worried about getting Botswana and Zimbabwe confused, as well as Togo and Benin, Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire, Lesotho and Swaziland. Call it Africa dyslexia, if you will.

Also, and I’m nitpicking here… the version of the map you based your map on must be a little old (pre 1993). There’s a new African country that borders the following: 23, 24, and 25.

Yes, I’m a map geek. (sigh)

Mike D, you did a really good job of drawing the map. I certainly couldn’t pull that off as well.

Haha, oh man, every week I am more in awe of your geographical knowledge. I could probably name a lot of African countries but would only guess where most of them were.

At ultimate tournaments we play a game called wipeout, where someone sets a catagory, and everyone competes to see who can name the most (it’s more complicated than that but that’s the jist of it). Occasionally the catagories are “states in the USA” or “countries in Africa” or suchlike. You would totally own us in those rounds…

Anybody ever watch “Where in the world is Carmen SanDiego?” on PBS? There was a final bonus round for the winner of the game, where they were given the opportunity to catch Carmen by placing markers on a map of a continent. On Every episode with Africa as the continent, you could just see the kid’s face fall when the host said “Africa!”. It was the kiss of death.

I remember that game well. And I remember Africa being the kiss of death, as you say.

You notice what else they did to make that round more difficult? They had all of the markers at the north end of the map, so when you ran to place them, you were looking at the continent upside-down, making it even harder.
