SKYLINE 2

First off, congratulations to Shamus who correctly identified the location of the last skyline as Philidelphia from the steps of the Philidelphia Museum of Art… and to Roland who successfully pointed out that the picture was from the United States. That skyline was made super popular from the Rocky films when rocky runs up the steps of that museum and appears all sorts of victorious.

this week’s challenge is much harder.

WARNING: the answer may be in the comments, so don’t scroll down until you’ve given up.

First? the skyline. Enjoy it here.

Now, the Satellite Image. Enjoy it here.

Your tasks:
1) identify the skyline shown in the photograph
2) determine if the satellite image is of the same location
3) if not, determine the location of the satellite image

This one’s pretty tough. In the world of rockclimbing, I would rate it as a healthy 5.10c

Good luck!

(side note: if you took the picture… you’re not allowed to guess.)

I only know this one because we chatted that one time and you mentioned this one as being pretty obscure. (However, I didn’t remember our conversation after several of my first guesses were all incorrect.)

If you guys want a clue I can give you one.

    **CLUE**
This city is the capital of its country.

Skyline: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia? Definitely in the middle east somewhere. I’d say Dubai but I’ve never seen that massive pointy thing there.

I’m not sure where the skyline is, but it is certainly not the seattle space needle, which the satelite image is showing. I’m going to guess the skyline is somewhere in kuwait

Are you sure it’s not Toronto? I know they have a space-needle-ish thing there…

It’s the Liberation Tower in Kuwait city. I thought Toronto at first, but quickly realized Toronto doesn’t have palm trees. If you look closely at the bus stop like structure at the bottom right, you can just barely make some writing in the Arabic alphabet. So that narrowed it down to somewhere in the Middle East. I checked out a bunch of cities (Dubai, Cairo), etc, but no towers like that. I spent some time trying to find a company with a camel (and maybe a snake? and the letters HIC or HLC?) for a logo. I then asked my Eygptian coworker if he recognized the logo, which he did not (also the text on the bus stop was too illegalible for him to attempt to read it). But he suggested I look into Kuwait city, as that was not one of the Middle Eastern cities I checked.
