Minesweeper.

Jesse: I do the same thing. Bomb… flag… bomb… number.
mike d: you play minesweeper?
Jesse: yeah.
mike d: are you pretty good?
Jesse: yeah. what’s your best time?
mike d: well, what size do you play?
Jesse: you know… all of them.
mike d: I play intermediate.
Jesse: What’s your best time?
mike d: hold on….

goes to computer

Jesse: you have a screenshot don’t you.
mike d: you bet.

time passes.

mike d: 28 seconds… but that’s actually not my best. my best is 27.

Hot.

mike d: what’s your best time for intermediate?
Jesse: I have no idea. I don’t keep track. you big loser.

35 minutes later

Jesse: seriously, what’s your best beginner score?
mike d: I’m not sure. maybe 4 seconds or so. I really think that the beginner map is based almost entirely on chance, less on skill. what’s yours?
Jesse laughs to himself proudly: heh heh I got him again. what a dork.

What’s your best time on Expert?

I had a college roommate who was sick at Minesweeper, and he has a sub-30 intermediate score, too. I told him about your feat, and his first question was what your best time on Expert is.

See, Expert is a totally different bag of marbles. Because the ratio of “mined to cleared” spots differs, it seems difficult to crosstrain.

As a result, I can’t use the same strategy for Expert as Intermediate. And to be honest? I never really played much expert, so I’m not entirely proud of my 98sec. score. I stick by my intermediate though. That was an adventure.
