When I was a little kid, I remember lying in bed looking at my clock. I came up with the following puzzle.
A woman goes to bed without setting her alarm. She has a restless sleep and wakes up to look over at her digital clock. She makes note of the time and goes back to sleep. She lays in bed for exactly five more minutes before looking at the clock again. As she lays staring at the clock, another minute passes and she realizes her clock is upside down.
What time is it?
Time for her to flip her clock…
har har har
Wait, so she looks at the time, waits 5 minutes, looks at the time again, waits 1 more minute, looks at the time and THEN realises that it’s upside down? Or is it look – 5 minutes – look – realise it’s upside down?
looks at the time. waits 5 minutes. looks again. waits 1 minutes. looks and THEN realizes it’s upside down.
Is the clock on 24 or 12 hour time? No clues?
Here’s a hint:
When you flip a clock upside down, it also reads backwards. You should be able to use that to narrow down the results a bit.
Another hint:
You may or may not have to ignore the Colon that depicts the seperation between hour and minutes. Our female subject may have been in too much in a daze to notice that detail. Don’t take that into consideration as you try and solve the puzzle.
does she know exactly 5 minutes have passed when she turns to look at the time again?
yes. she’s got a killer internal clock.
Would it be XX:XX? EDITED OUT BY MIKE D, SO THAT OTHERS CAN PLAY
yup!! nicely done!
If she’s got a killer internal clock, she should have noticed the clock was upside down in the first place… I think I know your answer.
In retrospect my brain can’t really handle this sort of puzzle after a week of work so I don’t know why I asked for a clarification. Maybe I just like being difficult? :/
i emailed mike d my answer, hopefully, he’ll say i was right.
indeed you were! well done!
Whoop, sorry… i realized when i commented but! when i tried to edit it out i got no love.
