Lahma bi Ajeen!

This weekend Jon and I made Lahma bi Ajeen. it’s a “flat loag topped with a mixture of lamb, pine nuts, tomato and garlic.”

It’s arab. and was tasty as well as fun to make.

We got the recipe from Beard on Bread. and I have to say, Beard knows his bread. The end result was a bit salty, but very good. I would type out the recipe, but it was a long one. If you’re interested fire me an e-mail and I’ll send you the directions.

Here are some fun pictures of the construction process:

RISING!
Alton Brown suggests letting bread rise in a clear pitcher. By tossing a rubber band around it when you start you can mark the starting point. It makes the doubling in size very easy to see.

JonStirs, I crumble
Fun fact: if you go to your butcher and ask them to grind up some meat for you, they will do it! We got the ground lamb for this recipe ground for us at the local shop for free.

end result!
And the end result!

Mike d’s rockclimbing food ratings:

Difficulty: 5.10+ arete
Deliciousness: 5.9

You know what else Alton says. Don’t leave dirty pots and pans stacked up so they look like the leaning tower of Piza, close your dishwasher door to prevent accidents, and there should only be one uni-tasker in the kitchen. I don’t see that camera doing anything other than taking pictures. Unless that thing can toast bread, beat eggs, or create a tasty rue, then throw it out!

I believe Jon’s camera can take pictures AND video, that seems like a multitasker. Also, it can be used to access a memory card and to use that card as an alternate storage method.

Hey, I’m just trying to keep that kitchet uncluttered. If I had a stegosaurus for a trash compactor I would try to keep it as orderly as possible.

I’ve never understood this, why do you not click the “reply to this comment” link so that the replies are threaded?

I spend so much time slaving over a hot keyboard coding up these features into place and you don’t even use them. I don’t know why i even bother!

I am Kurt and I do what I please. I would think after 5 or so years you would know that by now. I could post just one sentence in a reply. Wouldn’t that be annoying! I might just do it on your site Jon. Beware. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!

Mike, shouldn’t those scores be 4.10 and 4.9? I don’t see any ropes providing a 5th point of contact. Though if you need to involve your feet, that’s pretty intense. So really 2.10 and 2.9.

ooh, good observation. It’s true. we weren’t harnessed in while making this meal.

However, I will likely continue to use the 5.X system because it’s so standard. AND, who knows. maybe the next meal will require ropes. I could also use the V# system like for bouldering. but I don’t quite feel comfortable with that scale yet.

I would really like to see you tackle some meals requiring ropes. Or even some 1.x (one hand only!) meals would be interesting.
