CUPCAKE ARMAGEDDON!

I hope someone happens to find this entry someday by searching Google for “cupcake armageddon”

Okay! here they are. We had 9 entries this week. I think in the future I will stick with the full week of drawing time. 3 days was too quick to get more than a handful of entries.

Use the comments to vote for your favorite 3 mspaint images.

Because we only have so few entries, we’re going to skip the catagorical voting. But, if you’d like to throw out a bonus point for the most inane drawing, please do so.

Cupcake Armageddon #1
Note and appreciate the frosting on that delicious cupcake. Imminent doom is certain.
**Roland pointed out that transparent colors are impossible in MSPaint, as such this cupcake is impossible (please see comments). For this reason, here’s a modified version of Cupcake Armageddon #1
Also, I noticed something when I edited the Cupcake out. there’s a really small “No Cupcake” sign on the front left side of the shuttle. Hot!

Cupcake Armageddon #2
Charred bodies and laser cupcakes. Exactly the kind of thing we like to see in MSPaint.

Cupcake Armageddon #3
The background shading is really nice. I also like the airplane reference.

Cupcake Armageddon #4
What a wide variety of weapons those cupcakes boast. I think those cupcakes came from the grave. And I think they want to kill everybody.

Cupcake Armageddon #5
Excellent characitures of these celebrities. I do believe that’s Gollum on the left, and William Hung on the right.

Cupcake Armageddon #6
Stained Glass Cupcakes. Fun to look at! not to eat.

Cupcake Armageddon #7
I was told that carrots and broccoli are the mortal enemies of cupcakes. Please note the cupcake that was struck with an arrow on the right.

Cupcake Armageddon #8
RARR! I’ve never seen an angry cupcake quite like this. Please note the different clothes on the military vs. the civilians. Very impressive shading as well.

Cupcake Armageddon #9
No MSPainting has ever been so true.

Again, please vote for your favotire three (in order) in the comments and a bonus point for the most inane. You are not allowed to vote for your own drawing. Well done artists!

Gah, I was clearly thinking muffin armageddon… and my monitor at home must be super bright, because muffin armageddon dosn’t have the brightness it once did.

re: cupcake #1 – how the heck do you get semi-transparent colours in Paint?
I will hold off voting until I know whether that person cheated or not.

I don’t own a red shirt! I’m going to guess that timmy did this one. “Timmy” should be awarded -1 points for not even getting my glasses correct.

8 – I love the cherry on top.
6 – Excellent concept with the Stained glass.
4 – Just because I love the weapons.

GASP! Roland you’re right! Semi-transparent colors are completely impossible inside MSPaint, and semi-transparency is running RAMPENT in cupcake #1’s colorful design.

I am ashamed at not noticing it myself! THIS IS NO MSPAINT! (perhaps it is a Mac version of MSPaint?)

What I DO know is that this particular drawing was made my two artists. One made the cupcake, another made the rest. (note the different fire coming out of the shuttle) Let’s chaulk the cupcake’s complete and obvious failure of life to inexperience and rate the drawing soley on the shuttle, space, and earth.

I’ll ammend drawing one with a disclaimer.

OK in that case my votes are:
#6 (Love the feeling of power and speed in the cupcakes. I would be genuinely fearful of being hit in the head by one.)
#5 (A scathing inditement of the state of America’s foreign policy in the 21st century)
#2 (A realistic portrayal of invasion by laser-firing cupcake spacecraft)
    Inane bonus: #7 (???)

    8 – It’s just awesome. I like the colors
6 – Ridiculous. It came out wicked good. Kudos to whomever drew this.
5 – You can’t go wrong with Bush comedy. Especially when it involves cupcakes.

    1. I vote for #8. Mainly because I am afraid not to. Also, the fact that the massive body of the cupcake can be supported on such spindly legs hints of the supernatural.

    2. This vote is for #7. Although it looks a little like a rampage against bran muffins (instead of cupcakes), I like the idea of Vegetables on the Loose. Also the cupcake-shaped nuclear cloud is tops.

    3. Number 9. Mainly because Kurt appears jaundiced, and also because of the fact that I just KNOW he’s going to indulge in some “Dr. Jake Levin Pork” next.

Inane vote: #4. Inane is defined as: “empty, lacking sense” if you go back to the original Latin. Reasoning? Who would bury cupcakes in a grave?

The head on this figure is also far too small for it to be Kurt… honestly, its almost impossible to find a hat to fit him.

    6 – love the colors
    8 – just because
9 – while it can’t be Kurt (unless its shrunken skull kurt), the concept is great!

As always, Patrick’s impressions of all applicants.

#1) GASP! Illegalness! I wouldn’t have noticed. I really like the space shuttle, though. It’s killer.

#2) Reminds me of that Scorched Earth game that I played back in middle school. I don’t believe I’ve ever eaten a cupcake with a cherry on top before.

#3) So there’s an airplane, and fire falling from the sky, and a volcano, and dialogue. But honestly, my only focus is to Grimace down in the corner. What’s with the steady supply of Happy Meal characters in this contest?

#4) Whoa, an armageddon when it’s sunny out. Whoa. That red noose weapon thingy reminds me of those fake dog leashes for invisible dogs.

#5) Uh oh, William Hung has 2 more cupcakes than W. Where’s Iran? Do they not eat cupcakes there? Or maybe it’s Ramadan.

#6) This is Guernica on LSD. And, I think I can confidently say that this is Mike D’s entry.

#7) I’ll think twice about eating broccoli ever again. I love the concept of this one. The other ones say that the armageddon is a result of the cupcakes. This one is an armageddon inflicted upon the cupcakes.

#8)I think this one was done by the artist of the pirate vs. keg with the little men moving the pieces. I like it. And again, another cherry on a cupcake! Have I been living in a cave?

#9) This is one big inside joke, but I still find humor in it. Again, another one with the armageddon upon the cupcakes. Though, the cupcakes don’t look too terribly frightened. Instead, they look like they’re finishing up a Mel Brooks’ musical number.

    My votes, in order:
    #6. My favorite, by far.
#7. Bran muffins or not, this one has the most creative spin.
#8. Compared to the others, this one is just a ho-hum armageddon, but it’s so well drawn.

    Inane Bonus: #2, I think.

8 – Because of the sheer destruction coupled with the expression on the cupcake’s face equals poetry in motion. The cherry on top is, um, the icing on the cake?

5 – Yay politics! The characters are very well drawn. Both have been considered as halloween costumes for me.

    9 – Creative and funny.

    Cupcake 6 is beautifully drawn.

Cupcake 9 is second. Not because of anything to do with the cupcakes, but because of the MikeD drinking too much water reference. I laughed out loud.

Cupcake 3 gets a point for referencing Airplane.

Also, I didn’t not enter this becaue of the time allotment or the subject – I didn’t enter this becuase I couldn’t think of anything worthy to be posted.

As an aside, cupcake #6 makes me feel sick to my stomach. Honestly, I’ve never been able to see the “hidden” picture in those optical illusion things, and I can barely look at it without getting angry and confused. Nothing against the artist or the artwork (which is admittedly impressive) but I have to say, ouch!

I’m pretty sure it’s just two guys getting artistically-railed by high-speed airborne cupcakes.

I feel I must defend my cupcake (#1). I only used ms paint. I don’t even know how I would go about cheating on ms paint. I did however get lazy and gift my cupcake to my brother, since ms painting is hard. The frosting took a really long time and I did it in stages, using various colors and both the paint brush option and pencil one to create the effect of sprinkles.

I have done some research and have this to report:
None of the MSPaint tools will allow you to make transparent pixels as the extent of the transparency knowhow in Paint is limited to the “draw opaque” option in the Image menu. This option tells paint whether a white background is to be interpreted as a solid or not. Its actually more closely related to selections than drawings, but that’s neither here nor there.

What is important is, if MSPaint doesn’t natively let you draw a semi-opaque pixel, can you replicate the effect and thereby create the illusion of transparency?

    Yes.
I’ve written a break through article on the subject on jonabad.com: Faking Transparency in MSPaint.

I think that in #6, I am also being hit by cupcakes and the pain is so intense that I can only see in shapes, colors and occasionally, Faces.

Once again, all really great entries. I had a few ideas, but unfortunately was too busy to be able to put anything together in time.

8 – I love the frickin’ cupcake, it’s as simple as that. The facial expression, the shading on the wrapper and frosting – beautiful. The tiny little smushed army men are hilarious, too.

6 – You really get a sense of the madness of cupcake armageddon and it’s very creatively done.

5 – The caricatures as very well done and I love the fact that Dubya throws like a girl.

8 – For the use of many dots and time on the cake, or the use of a pen thing.

1: #3. It’s the only one that used a different twist on Cupcake Armageddon. Everyone else did cupcakes either destroying or being destroyed. Hm.
2: #7. The cupcake/muffin pinned to the wall is funny.
3: #8. The expression on the cupcake made me laugh out loud. Also, it’s legs are so spindly.

Most inane? Ummm, probably #3 too, because why is Grimace one of the only people left alive at the end of the world? He doesn’t strike me as someone whose survival skills are up to par. And why is he happy? Is Grimace the destroyer of the world? What’s he up to? So confusing.

Actually, I found it by looking up “cupcake weapon”. Very excellent.

I am using it for fodder in my battle over cake vs. cupcake supremacy.

My opponent was maintaining that cupcakes were never used as weapons because they were too cute and delicious. These excellent illustrations of cupcake violence have helped my case immensely.

Many thanks!!! The discourse is occurring here: Cake War
