JAGUARS!

The challenge was such: Using MSPaint draw a jaguar trying to stuff a typewriter into a microwave.

I received 12 entries, which are listed below. Please take the time to check each and then vote for your top three by commenting. You are not allowed to vote for your own entry. If you prefer, feel free to keep your comment anonymous. I’ll know who you are from your listed e-mail. Also, guess which is mine!

When you vote take quality, humor, creativity, and awesomeness into consideration.

The list, followed by my personal favorite part of that drawing.

IMPORTANT: if you’re running IE, you may have to hold your mouse over each drawing and wait for the “expand to full size” button to magically appear in the lower left. Click that to make sure you’re viewing the pictures in proper resolution.

Jaguar1
The speed lines and the extremely realistic typewriter

Jaguar2
The Thundercats Poster and the Recipe book

Jaguar3
Please just contemplate the ridiculousness of this scenario

Jaguar4
The Raisin Bran Sun in the upper right. Two scoops of Delicious Microwave!

Jaguar5
The look of determination in the jaguar. Seriously, that cat is dangerous.

Jaguar6
The keys of the typewriter actually have the letters on them

Jaguar7
Judging by the expression on this Jaguar’s face, there are about 2 Minutes until this Jaguar eats and kills EVERYBODY.

Jaguar8
The look of fury, and the curvy boneless arm

Jaguar9
Pun-tastic! and a very impressive MSPaint Jaguar

Jaguar10
The Hashed Shading is impressive indeed.

Jaguar11
The blood. And strange Kangaroo likeness

Jaguar12
The perspective is impressive, as well as the realistic shadows. Unfortunately I have my suspicions that the artist may have used “copy and paste” to pull in outside pictures. Because no one but a professional would spend time creating off color treads on an MSPaint car. For this reason, submission 12 will start off with negative 1 votes.

An excellent bunch of submissions. Use the comments to vote for your 3 favorites!

UPDATE!: ARTIST #12 IS ADAMANT ABOUT THE ORIGINALITY OF HIS MSPAINTING, AND SUCH, HE SHALL REGAIN THE NEGATIVE POINT, AND GAIN AN ADDITIONAL POINT FOR THE EFFORT OF SHADING THE TREADS ON HIS JAGUAR’S WHEELS

Jaguar9 for pun-tasticness. Even though those look more like Marcowaves instead of Microwaves. Really, they are huge.

Jaguar10 for drawing the microwave’s perspective.

    Jaguar5 for best looking cat.

And I think MikeD’s MSPaint is Jaguar6. Which is also good, but doesn’t get a vote, since it’s his contest.

Hmmm…upon closer inspection of Jaguar12, you can see a signature at the bottom of the microwave tower, in grey. I enlarged it, and it looks like it says “JAN.”

    I can’t vote for #6, as I’m pretty sure it’s MikeD’s… and it’s awesome.

So #2 it is… thundercats hoooooooo

in defense of Jaguar12’s artist. the letters “JAH” are in fact, the artist’s initials.

    Good Eye Becky!

However, he’s still starting off at negative 1 points. At least until he can defend the treads on the car.

3,2, and 10 are all excellent drawings.
#6 screams of Mike D’s superior skills (you could tell this is his because he puts the little lines around stuff to make it look like there is some movement)

Those were awesome! I didn’t even think of drawing a jaguar car instead of a real live jaguar cat. Woah. Did you ever notice that cat and car are only two letters appart? I know I just discovered that!

    1. Jaguar 4, because of the double fun of a Jaguar driving a Jaguar. And because the sun will reward the Jaguar with two scoops of raisins. That minor cruelty tickles my fancy.

    2. Jaguar 5, because the Jaguar looks surly. Also because he’s carrying a bat, and I’m afraid not to vote for him.

    3. Jaguar 7. The anger is poetic. Also, the attempt at perspective ain’t half bad either. Also, the Jaguar has an enormous head. Perhaps it has evolved into an intelligent jaguar with a bigger brain. It also is obviously a female, or pudgy. I like the idea of an out-of-shape jaguar with a giant intelligent head.

I vote for 4 because of the double jaguar-ness, 7 because it scared me, and 3 because it made me think.

I almost wanted to vote for 11 because of the blood and the scariness of it all.

2: definately because of the “typewriter recipes”
4: because of the two scoops of raisins
6: because it’s totally awesome and clearly it’s mike d’s. isn’t that funny? he has a MSPaint style so pronounced we can call things “Mike D-esque”

    almost 11, but i’m pretty sure that’s kurt’s

5- I’m afraid if I don’t vote for him it would make him more angry
10- Love the shading and perspective, a true work of art…

    1. Jaguar11 is by far the best. It’s perfect in every way that an MSPaint image should be. I love the radiation lines shining gloriously from the microwave.

    2. Jaguar10 gets my second vote. It’s professional and very realistic. This is what I would expect a jaguar to look like while it was stuffing a typewriter into a microwave

    3. Jaguar1. I really like it. It’s simple and I really love the color. I find it almost relaxing to look at.

I wasn’t aware we were taking points off it being too good?
Every element in that piture was:
    * hand pixeled
    * by me
    * last night in the 2 hours available between work and bedtime (no dinner)
    Including:
    * the treads on the tire and sweet rims
    * the tiny, well shaded Jaguar hood orniment (and headlights for that matter)
    * the accurately portrayed Jaguar style grille
Things that I wanted to do, but had to go to bed:
    * Have a Jaguar driving the car (including corrected golors for blue tinted glass
    * Better shadows, including a correct rendering of the microwave tower.
    * A detailed and well shaded satellite dish
    * A ground

    Take it or leave it.

#3 – Sheer ingenuity of the jaguar to accomplish his goals. Also, the reserved use of color adds to the drama of the situation

#8 – That car will haunt me for years to come.

#12 – I think 3d isometric pixel art is the shizzle.

    It’s true. #6 is mine.

The white area on the jaguar’s face is a metal plate. like Kano.

Actually, it’s simply my trying out a new shading method. I am moderately pleased with the result. Perhaps I should have used a differeny back color, a shade of grey perhaps?

I thought that all the pictures were great, better than my lame attempt that I deleted into the recycle bin.

    1. #10 this was cool I liked the fact that I was the microwave
    2. #12 I believe that this person did it himself! They have captured the car wonderfully, however there style is not true MS Paint style
    3. #1 The car is cool :D

and MikeD, #6 I saw it, and thought of you! lol

My shoutouts go to all the artists! I’m excited for the next one of these!

My votes go to #2, #5, and #12

#2 loves thundercats, who doesn’t, and is totally pissed at that typewriter. Although, he should have had his contractor build him/her smaller countertops…

#5 is grounded in reality and has an earthiness that i appreciate.
No, i’m not really sure what that means either. I just like the picture.

#12 map props for tackling the subject using isometric pixel art. I don’t like the alternate microwave used but its still cool.

    Crash course…I love you, Adam.

#10 gets my vote. It’s just perfect in its lack of Mike D crisp talent, but captures the moment kind of like a Don Hertzfeldt cartoon, it almost looks like all the lines are moving.

Keep in mind some of these (particularly #3, which is quite tall) won’t show up well if you have your browser set to automatically resize images.

#12 looks great up until the car, which just pales in comparison to the perfectly drawn typewriter on a table (amazing!). But I doubt I could do any better, 3D car-wise, in MS Paint.
