Hey Meowstro

This weekend was very exciting. After an eventful “my parents meet Jill’s parents” dinner, Jill and I zipped over to the upper cape to hang out with Ryan Schenk and Ruth. I had to crop most of the hot vespa out of the picture below because I wanted to keep the sharp resolution on Ryan and Ruth’s expressions. Let it be known that the vespa is indeed very hot.

Check out that hot Vespa!

Everyone was thumbs up for an exciting day of kiteboarding.

We eventually made it down to the beach and I put on a harness. Tom, another Kiter, helped secure me in my harness. Because of a mildly screwy perspective, tom looks like a Giant in this photo:

I look like a midget

Ryan helped me get the kite in the air. And he described to me the arc of wind. As you can see from the diagram below, there’s a 180 degree quarter sphere of air that you can work with. As you move the kite around the sphere you get different degrees of power. Thankfully, the wind was low Sunday so my inexperience didn’t lead me to serious injury. But, even with a small kite in this low wind, when I inadvertently drove the kite into the power zone I felt like I was being pulled by a truck. It was one of the most beautiful and powerful feelings I could ever imagine.

With Ryan’s help, I got the kite into the air. It was extremely fun flying it around. At times I would be pulled through the water in what Ryan called “body dragging.” I feel like I got a bit of a feel for the kite and how to operate it. Jill was on the beach taking the photos. She was critical in this operation because otherwise there would be no documentation of this journey.

Woo!

After an afternoon of kiteboarding, we cleaned up, got some dinner and some ice cream and watched the sun set and some big fourth of july fireworks.

It was an epic day.

We also had great fun playing with Ryan & Ruth’s cat. Appropriately named “Meowstro.” She was a hilarious little cat. here she is with a hat on.

Hey Meowstro!

Special thanks to Ryan and Ruth for being so accommodating. It was a super weekend.

Let it be known that the scooter has chrome moon hubcaps (not shown) and a pirate flag on the back (obscured by Ruth’s arm).

Very nice drawing of the arc of wind, Mike D!

    Hey Mike,
Justso you know. When I first load your site I see the full banner with you being pulled by the kite. But once your page fully loads up the portion with the kite is missing, being chopped off by your tabs on the right side of the page. I don’t know if that is a resolution problem with my work computer, or something on your end. Just thought you would like to know.

    thanks for the comment kurt!

rarely do I find people who opperate at or below the threshold of 600×800 screen size. But once again you’ve amazed me. Try changing the resolution on your computer to anything else.

    that will probably work.

well, seeing as I work for the State we have a little rule called, “Don’t give Kurt Permission to do anything on his computer”. So unfortunately the only thing I can do is right click on an image and set it as my background.

I had the same problem with the banner.

More importiantly, I went to click on the WPTopsites link, and it was gone. Is this an accident of loading the new kiteboarding banner or are you out of the Topsites rankings?
