Weekend update

It was a busy weekend at the house of rock. We had tons of visitors including Tim Baird, Tom & Mykal, Chad, James, Arianne, Charolette, Dave, Ben, emma, Joel, and Amy.

We did lots of rock climbing, and I’m excited to report that Jesse and I got first and third place in the rock climbing promotional contest, thus securing us over $800 in prizes.

Friday night Tim Baird came. it was good to see the dude and I learned that comedy central’s daily show webpage has hundreds of free videos online. We had some good laughs.

Saturday Tom and Mykal came and we cooked up a storm. 8 pounds of sloppy joes were made, as well as this amazing chocolate dessert:
Chocolate Lasagna
appreciate the wonder.

Sunday, we had even more visitors. and more good times.

And just now, I got a call from my co-worker pete. who asked me to look out my window. And there was a giant turkey waddling by my window. I considered going to and chasing it to see if Ben’s claims are true… but I decided to just watch from a distance.

How much sloppy joe is left? Curious how many days and or people it’s going to take you to get through that pot of sloppy.

Turkey’s really do fly, it’s amazing that such a big/stupid bird can take flight. They sleep up in trees, you know.

Sloppy joes are just cooked ground beef with flavorings added in. I use my Mom’s special recipe, which is really just ketchup, onion and brown sugar but oh so Tasty!

Mike I am very impressed that you finished them off, even with 4 people to help. I thought they’d be around until at least Tuesday.

Sometimes when I run in the woods, I see turkeys. Often times they are in my way. Since I’m already running, I’m not technically chasing them. However, they probably don’t know any better. Regardless, the point of this tale was to say that I’ve never seen one fly. They just run like the dickens!

What kind of prizes did you win that cost $800?

For the obscure outdoor sport (orienteering) that I compete in, the most I’ve ever won is a ribbon and a loaf of bread. And once, I almost won a jar of pasta sauce!

we won a year membership at the gym ($720 value) and a 12 pass ($120). We are going to sell the 12 pass to a friend and use the cash to buy a rope for outdoor climbing.

Tom and Mykal do orienteering just about every weekend. i’ll have to try it sometime.

Check out the orienteering schedule here http://www.neoc.org. Only a few more events in the spring, then events start back up around September again.

I guess the northeast is like Kansas (where I used to live) where the orienteering season starts in the fall and ends in the spring.

Much to my excitement, the o-season in Washington is year-round, with traditional o-meets, bike-o, urban-o, and adventure racing. And there are clubs in Oregon and British Columbia. And the Western States O’Champs are held in Washington this year, the US O’Champs in Oregon, too. It’s almost overwhelming!
