Crosstraining

On my quest to achieve maximum fitness in 2005, I recently asked my sister Theresa what sorts of Crosstraining is good for running. She recommended Bicycling, which would also be my first choice, as it is non-impact. BUT! alas, I have no access to a functional stationary bicycle.

So, now I’m trying to think of other fun crosstraining activities. Here’s a small list I’ve come up with in my head. It’s really not just for running. Obviously using a speedbag does nothing for my leg strength. But, it’s a fun list anyway.

1. Speedbag boxing
2. Rock Climbing
3. Real-life bicycling
4. Stairmaster
5. Jumping rope

I would include swimming, but I have no access to a pool. Likewise with an elliptical machine. Any other suggestions?

Rowing. I erg for 20-30 min at the beginning of each of my workouts. Your legs get a moderate
workout, but it jacks up your forearm muscles (probably good for climbing too).
If you need an example, check out my gun show some day (ladies free of charge).

Good suggestion TB. Sadly, I have no access to a Rowing Machine. nor an actual boat.

All in all I think if you want to crosstrain in the winter you need acess to more equipment or or a gym with a pool or indoor tennis courts/raquetball or something. If you had trails and snow you could snow-shoe or ski, but you’d still need more stuff. There are a few crazies who do bike outside in the winter, but I wouldn’t recommend that.

oooh, good idea with the tennis/raquetball! I think you’re right though. I’m goign to need some sort of additional gear. Hmm. Maybe I can convince work to buy a stationary bike. Or maybe I can sign up to a raquet club. that’d be extreme fun.
