Problem Light!
This fourth of July holiday Jesse and I spent some time making a sweet Problem Light for my office cubical.
I used this basic design to create my own, the only major differencing being a small brass valve that can be used to turn the light on and off.
This art style is called ’steampunk’ and there’s all sorts of interesting stuff on it over at wikipedia.
now… to the light!
I’m pretty excited. It came out great and will be a sweet conversation piece in the cubical.

A sad tale of unreached goals…
Once again, Mike D tries to pull off 20 jumps in 30 seconds.
Kung Fu Party Trick
Please enjoy the newest Kung Fu Party Trick!
Special thanks to Irene for being such a fantastic helper.
Volume 1
We’re going to try and start a new series here at MikeDiDonato.com: Kung Fu Party Tricks.
My hope is that these videos will get more and more ridiculous as time passes. I’m hoping to have updated videos every Tuesday. My goal is a total of 10 episodes.
Enjoy our first installment below. Today’s theme is… Panther Pushups!
Powerball.
Last weekend when I zipped out to the cape Ryan let me borrow his powerball.
The powerball is a gyroscope device that, when you spin it, really wants to move. By gripping it tightly and spinning hard, you get an incredible workout for your forearms. As Jesse, Joel, and I were trying it out, we realized that it might be a humorous thing to get on video.
Enjoy!

A Snowy Video
The House of Rock stands on a hill.
We use this to our advantage when it snows.

Behind the Scenes
Here’s the video that answers the thousands of questions I’ve received regarding how we got the vegetables to make those sweet sounds!

Produce Productions
Check out the newest House of Rock video out on Vimeo by clicking on the video below. I decided to use Vimeo instead of YouTube… because YouTube can’t freakin’ get the sound synced.
if the video isn’t working for you, try clicking this.
If you have windows media player and Vimeo isn’t working for you, I highly recommend you download the original and watch it. It’s really important that the sound and the video be synced for the full effect. In addition to downloading it to your local computer, I would recommend watching it as a relatively small video instead of full screen so that your computer can handle the seriousness of the rock.
Check out the real deal, here.
Happy Holidays
The sound quality is pretty poor and you tube may make the sound a little out of sync, but you’ll get the picture.
The Big B. (as in baking)
Yesterday, Jon, Tom, & Mykal came to the House of Rock for a bakefest like none before.
We baked a lot of food including:
Peach Cobbler
White Chocolate Challah Bread Pudding
Homemade Crackers
Mocha Cake
Sugar Bread (with whole sugar cubes!)
Spinach Souffle’
Almond Macaroons
Ultimate Oatmeal Cookies
Fun was had. Check out some pictures!
Tom’s Hazelnut mocha cake was created from scratch. We had some trouble with the first batch of frosting and had to try a second time. Apparently cakes are tough to make, so kudos to Tom for his stellar efforts.
Here, Jon is stirring the batter for the oatmeal cookies. Notice the look of determination!
Here’s a sampler of some of the creations. That’s White Chocolate Challah Bread Pudding at the bottom of the picture.
And here’s a video of some marzipan that was probably sitting around too long.
Kung Fu Marshmallows
So last night, we decided to see if I could kick a marshmallow that was tossed towards me.
We also decided to videotape it.
Now, it should be known that I thought there would only be three marshmallows. Also, these marshmallows were slightly stale. And when you CHUCK a marshmallow at someone else’s face… it hurts.
Mike D & Fam Technoscience Video
If you’re a HoR alumn, you’ll surely remember the INTERACTIVE SOLAR SYSTEM and the amazing music that all too often accompanied it.
This is the video that started it all.
On Christmas in 2005, Mike D and family took music, technology, and interpretive dancing to a whole new level. enjoy
Wheels in the Heels
I have a bit of writers block this week. So instead of a long drawn out post about nothing, here’s a video of me failing with Jesse’s HEELIES (sneakers with wheels in the heels)
also, go to Jon Abad’s page and check out this video.
