Skyline 8!

Posted by mike d. Filed in Features, skyline

Congratulations to everyone from worcester for their successful skyline identification. Many of you were successful with the satellite image as well, which was Madrid. Well done!

This week’s skyline is here! I think you’ll find the country is easy to determine, but the city… less so.

The satellite is… here!

A) where is the skyline?
B) is the satellite of the same location?
C) if not, where is the satellite

good luck!

SKYLINE 7!

Posted by mike d. Filed in Features, skyline

Congrats to everyone who pretty much slaughtered last week’s Houston Skyline and Satellite. Bonus points go to JesAbad for driving them roads the same day as the post went up. Also, Roland continues his undefeated record, correctly identifying both locations as within the milky way.

This week’s skyline is a bit different. It’s obvious that the skyline and satellite are of different locations, so we’ll skip the intermediate question.
WARNING: The answer may be in the comments, so don’t scroll down until you feel satisfied with your efforts.

First, identify the skyline. Bonus points if you can identify from where the photo was taken.

Now, try and identify the satellite.

HERE’S A HINT FOR THE SATELLITE IMAGE:

A,-B

A = the r value for the Ephemeris of MPO 69550 for April 15th 2006

B= the German alloy no. for Grade 2 commertially pure titanium with aSTM-B-specifications for general engineering.

Hint update (B is negative… I mistyped it the first time)

END OF HINT

Good luck!

Skyline 6!

Congratulations to all sorts of people for correctly identifying the last skyline as Tulsa and the satellite image as Honolulu. And Roland is on a roll. Once again he correctly guessed the continent and planet of the images. That guy is on fire.

So let’s start round six.
WARNING: the answer may be in the comments

First, the skyline.

And… the satellite.

Your task:
1) identify the skyline image
2) determine if the satellite image is of the same location
3) if not, identify the satellite location

SKYLINE #3

Posted by mike d. Filed in Features, skyline

Congratulations to Tom, Shamus, and Roland! Tom successfully identified the last Skyline as the Freedom Tower in Kuwait. Well done! Shamus was the first to notice the space needle in seattle, and Roland once again brought it home with his announcement that the skyline picture was from somewhere in the middle east. Special thanks to Ryan Schenk who got that photograph for me and Patrick who sent me the satellite image.

I think we’re all ready for the next one, so let’s go ahead and start round three.

First, check on the third skyline here.

Then, check out the Satellite image here!

Your tasks:

a) What is the skyline shown?
b) Is the satellite image of the same location?
c) If not, where is the location of the satellite image?

WARNING: ANSWERS MAY BE IN THE COMMENTS, SO MAKE SURE YOU’RE READY FOR RUIN WHEN YOU SCROLL DOWN

As usual, the skyline photographer can not participate in the challenge.

Good luck!

SKYLINE 2

First off, congratulations to Shamus who correctly identified the location of the last skyline as Philidelphia from the steps of the Philidelphia Museum of Art… and to Roland who successfully pointed out that the picture was from the United States. That skyline was made super popular from the Rocky films when rocky runs up the steps of that museum and appears all sorts of victorious.

this week’s challenge is much harder.

WARNING: the answer may be in the comments, so don’t scroll down until you’ve given up.

First? the skyline. Enjoy it here.

Now, the Satellite Image. Enjoy it here.

Your tasks:
1) identify the skyline shown in the photograph
2) determine if the satellite image is of the same location
3) if not, determine the location of the satellite image

This one’s pretty tough. In the world of rockclimbing, I would rate it as a healthy 5.10c

Good luck!

(side note: if you took the picture… you’re not allowed to guess.)

Skyline!

Posted by mike d. Filed in Features, skyline

Okay!

here’s the first of hopefully many posts that will explore the skylines throughout the world.

The game is simple, I’ll show a picture of a skyline and you can do your best to identify said skyline. Some will be easy, some will be near impossible. In order to make the game a little more interesting, a satellite image will also be available. That image may or may not correspond with the picture posted. Your job is to
A) guess the city and country of the skyline
B) tell me if the satellite image is from the same city
C) if not, tell me the city or location of the satellite image

So, let’s give it a go!

First, here’s the Skyline.

Now, here’s the satellite image.

So there we have it. What city/cities?

I would rate this particular test as a 5.7.
5.5 for the well traveled.

WARNING: I expect people will most likely post their answers/guesses in the comments. So just be forewarned that if you continue to scroll down to the comments the game may be ruined for you.

Good luck!

A bonus point will go to the person who can identify the exact location within the city that the photo was taken.
