Skyline 34!

August 7th, 2007 by mike d.

So Patrick figured out the satellite from last week. It’s the island of Capri off the coast of Italy.
The skyline was Denver. Sadly no one picked that one up. (thanks to Arianne for the photo!)

New game! (WARNING: ANSWER MAY BE IN THE COMMENTS)

This particular edition of the skyline game excites me. I think it has high potential to be figured out by quite a few people.

Here’s the skyline.

Bonus points if you can provide the name of the church. Extra bonus points if you can send me a picture you took of the inside of the church.

Now, the satellite.

Bonus points if you can figure out the significance of the pier in the northwest corner.

Good luck!

Wow it’s been awhile since we did one of these. Congratulations go out to Liz and Patrick for successfully guessing the last skyline and satellite image. The skyline was Providence, the satellite image was Hong Kong.

And now… This week’s challenge!

Skyline!

Satellite!

Good luck.

I need more skylines, so if you have any pictures… send ‘em in!

We’re going to take a little break from the Prankage for some geographical excitement.

Last week Jocelyn and Schenk recognized the Nantucket Skyline, and Liz and Schenk grabbed the Florida Key’s satellite. Great Job!

This week, we continue.

Welcome back to the Guess that Skyline contest!

Last week Caitlin correctly identified the skyline as The Eden Project in England. Shaun L. and William, along with a few others, figured out that the satellite image was of St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican (on Earth). Great job!

I think this week’s contest is a good one. Check it out:

Adam hit the nail on the head with Venice. The Satellite image was of a huge satellite dish in Nevada. There was some significance behind that choice, but I forget exactly what it was. Oops.

Anyway, on with game #30.

Well, here we are. Another Monday, another skyline and satellite.

Congratulations to Adam and Paulette for recognizing the Florence skyline, likewise to Liz for recognizing the faux Hawaiian island just northeast of the famous island group.

All this brings us to this week’s contest. The satellite could be tough.

A whole handful of people successfully identified the satellite image as Fort Bourtange in the Netherlands. I guess I forgot that people may have already found it from the copenhagen contest. No matter! Great job to those that remembered where to find it!!

Sadly no one identified the skyline. So the anonymous curious internet person will have to find another way to find the skyline. Ahh well. Sorry Internet Friend!!

This week we have two good looking images.

First, the skyline.

SKYLINE

second, the satellite.

Your job is to identify either or both. Good luck!

A number of people recognized the satellite image of the Taj Mahal. Kurt grabbed it first though. Good job Kurt!

The skyline was Brighton, England. It was taken by Roland and I thought it would be unlikely if anyone had caught it. Except maybe Ben… I wasn’t sure if he had been to Brighton. Good job to the scientific searchers!

Let’s get right into the next challenge.

The skyline this week appears to be the cover of this band’s CD. I got an e-mail from another Mike D. asking if I believed my readers would be able to identify it. It’s going to be tough because it looks kind of arbitrary. But on the right hand side there appears to be some sort of distinct building. Discuss!

Congrats to Irene who was first to successfully identify the skyline as Zermatt, Switzerland. And also Congrats to Aaron whose Tony Hawk Pro-skater 4 culture led him to identify Trafalgar Square as the satellite image.

This next series might be tough, especially the skyline. We shall see.

There were a handful of people who successfully identified Disney as the satellite image. Jesse was the only one to submit a guess for the skyline. And he was correct. The answer was indeed Riomaggiore which is a small city in Italy one of the five cities of Cinque Terre. Special thanks to UUIG for providing that skyline.

Let’s proceed to this week’s challenge.

Your goal is to identify both.

Wow, tons of people got last week’s puzzle. I’m amazed.

Special awards go to Diane and JonAbad who were the first to identify the skyline of Rio De Janeiro (and did so within minutes of one another) and UUIG for not only correctly identifying the Great Wall, but also the location along it as Badaling… the prime tourist location along the wall and, coincidently, where I myself traversed its winding path.

So, here we are. Another Monday, another Skyline contest.

This week we have a skyline from one of my favorite locations. I am certain some of you will quickly identify it.
Skyline!

As for the satellite? I must admit it isn’t as immediately recognizable as I thought it would be.

Great job goes to Becky for successfully identifying the skyline image as Kansas City, MO. I had no idea my readers were so well travelled.

Also, great job goes to Tyler and Patrick who correctly figured out the satellite as the location of the tragic Chernobyl disaster.

So let’s jump right into this week’s challenge.

Skyline
What a gorgeous photograph. I hope that someone picks up on this one, it’s tricky because it’s unlikely that many (if any) of my regular readers have been here. Thankfully it’s a relatively unique geography.

Congratulations to Kurt for correctly identifying the skyline as Hartford, CT.

Congratulations to Kurt, Ben, and Mike for successfully identifying the southernmost tip of Simon’s Town by Cape Hope in Africa. It was extremely tough, but those guys pulled it off. One might wonder ‘why would mike choose that random location?’ well, the answer is idiocy. For whatever reason, I had thought that Cape Town was the southern most location in Africa. So I google mapped myself to Cape town, and saw the tip of Simons Town. I setup the whole contest before realizing that… no… this was not the southern most tip of Africa. Instead it was a random peninsula NEAR the southernmost tip of Africa.

all is well however, because Kurt, Ben and Mike found it. Well done dudes.

This week’s skyline will likely be a tad bit harder then Hartford. The satellite image is one that may appear to be tough, but it is a very significant location.

Wow, two skyline features in a row. Crazy!

I congratulate Patrick and Tyler* for making the connection between my clue (it mentioned light and wonder) and the satellite image’s unique northward facing beach to correctly identify the location as Pharos, an island off of Alexandria, Egypt. This was the location of the Lighthouse of Alexandria (one of the seven wonders of the world).

No one got the skyline. It was Rochester, NY.

So this brings us to this week’s puzzle.

Congrats to Patrick, Mykal, Liz, and UUIG for figuring out last week’s Satellite image as Prague. And good job to Liz & Will for snagging the Dallas skyline title just before the deadline.

This week’s challenge is a little different. You’ll be able to figure out why. Let’s see how good Patrick’s satellite recognition skills REALLY are. bwa ha ha

Congrats to Jocelyn and the Design studio for successfully identifying last week’s skyline as Kathmandu, Nepal. Also, great job goes to Patrick for identifying the satellite image which was also Kathmandu, Nepal.

I am running out of Skylines!! If you happen to have any hanging around on your hard drive or if you live in a location that has a skyline and are willing to take a photo, I’d love it if you’d send me some images.

But for now, you know what you need to do.

Identify the skyline and the satellite image.

After all sorts of complaints by readers, I decided it would probably be wise to update my features section.

So here’s the newest skyline problem.

First off, congrats to Patrick for identifying Easter Island in the satellite image, and EXTRA congrats to Blue Sarah for her successful identification of the skyline in an e-mail to me. Yes, this skyline is none other than Shanghai, China.

Here’s this week’s challenge!

Despite my best efforts last week, the skyline and satellite image were correctly identified.

Great job to Jes, Bisol, and Caitlin. Jes and Bisol recognized hints of the Montreal skyline and Caitlin picked up on Copenhagen. Great job guys!!

Here’s this week’s challenge!

The Skyline!

The Satellite Image!

1) identify the skyline
2) determine if the satellite image is of the same location
3) if not, determine the location of the satellite image
