MSPaint Contest!
Welcome to the eleventh edition of the mike d. MSPaint contest. We only have four contributors this week. I think their drawings will entertain you.
The challenge was to draw a picture of a robot at a playground. Our contestants went two distinct routes on this one. Two of the drawings below show robots playing at playgrounds, and two of the drawings show robots destroying playgrounds. One contestant actually produced two drawings, but specified which he wanted to be the true entry.
So let’s get started.
Our first robot, located HERE is a robot at play. This is the only drawing to depict a famous robot.
Our second robot, located HERE is destroying. Please note that this robot’s left foot is a tank.
Robot number three, located HERE, is a robot at play. This artist drew a second picture, but asked that his first drawing be the one considered in the contest. The second picture is here.
And finally Robot number four, located HERE, shows a robot ready to destroy all sorts of tom-foolery.
So there you have it! Vote in the comments as to which of these drawings you think rocks the hardest. Open commentary is welcome. Rock ‘em, sock ‘em, robots.
*note! artists can not vote for their own drawing
MSPAINT CONTEST
We haven’t had one of these in awhile, so let’s keep it simple.
Your challenge is to draw a picture of a Robot at a Playground .
You can ONLY use MSPaint or a MAC equivilent. The deadline is next Thursday at 5pm EST.
Submit your drawings to mikedidonato AT gmail DOT com
Good luck!
MSPaint Whodunnit!
So a week or two ago we had four entries into an MSPaint contest that challenged the readers to submit an MSPaint depicting a matador taking on an angry purple hippo. The five entries were excellent. A second challenge was then proposed to the readers: Identify the artists.
Here are the drawings:
Hippo 1.
Hippo 2.
Hippo 3.
Hippo 4.
Hippo 5.
I will flat out declare Hippo 3 the most awesome. It can’t be denied.
So who were the artists?
Hippo 1: Shaun McQuaid.
I’m surprised no one guessed him. He had put that little cupcake guy on the lower right into his ‘cupcake armageddon’ image.
Hippo2: mike d.
I’m honored that Shaun McQuaid thought mine was Patricks. While I usually use thinner lines, my drawings are almost always characterized by excessive use of the ’spline’.
Hippo3: Ruth
UBELIEVABLE HIPPO RUTH. Ryan Schenk guessed correctly. But I’m sure he cheated.
Hippo4: Becky
Becky’s last submission before heading off to boot camp. How sad! Thanks for participating!
Hippo5: Roland.
How Shaun McQuaid guessed this one baffles me. But still, great image roland. well done!
Thanks again everyone for participating! great job!
Hip Hip Hippo!
Wow. I just wrote a whole post and then lost it. Darn it. Here goes again…
THANKS to all the participants in this week’s contest. All of the entries were super exciting. The Challenge was to submit an MSPaint picture of a matador up against an angry purple hippo.
I received five entries total, so I’m going to try something a little different this time. MSPaint styles are very specific and repeated among artists. Using the images below, your challenge is to guess who submitted each drawing.
Hippo 1.
Artist #1 often times walks down the path of the abstract. I’m not sure what the thing in the upper right is… but I think it might be a disco ball. This one shouldn’t be too hard to guess because there are some returning themes from previous contests. Great job Artist 1!
Hippo 2.
By far the easiest to identify, Artist 2 has a very obvious style. Crisp curving lines and sharp color contrasts are typical for this artist. Great job Artist 2!
Hippo 3.
This is an amazing Hippo. The impressiveness might be the easiest thing to draw upon for this artist. Look for the common usage of the spray paint tool and the way that the artist makes the lines look hand drawn. This is a stunning picture. well done Artist 3!
Hippo 4.
This may be the hardest of the bunch to identify. I was informed by the artist that the entire picture was drawn in record speed with just the Round brush and Fill tool. The color choices might be the best way to identify this artist. Well done Artist 4!
Hippo 5.
This hippo is hilarious. In trying to identify artist 5 look for usage of the spray paint tool as well as general hilarity. This one might be tough too because I don’t know if i would say that this style is typical of his/her work. hmm. good luck on this one. Excellent work Artist 5! hilarious!
If you happen to know that a person participated, or if you know which drawing belongs to which artist through alternate means I would request that you do not participate in guessing for that particular drawing. If you submitted a drawing feel free to throw out some guesses for one or two of the other submissions!
Finally ,here are some references in your quest for artists. Each of the artists above participated in at least one of the following contests.
The Cupcake Armageddon contest, and its results
The Pirate contest, and its results
The Clown contest, and its results

MSPaint RESULTS!
And the results are in!
We have a first in the history of MikeDiDonato.com
Roland’s portrayal of Max Liebermann being assassinated by a Ninja won BOTH the most Inane and the most Awesome award.
Well done!
It was really the little ninja in the painting that seduced most readers. Great job man.
(also, check out the hot new image feature that JonAbad added to my site. click on the link above to see the dramatic light effects!)
MSPaint Competition #9: NINJAS vs. IMPRESSIONIST PAINTERS
It’s on.
The challenge: Using only MSPaint (or MAC equivalent) draw a picture of a Ninja fighting an Impressionist painter.
I understand that this might be a tricky topic, but I have faith that with some thought, we can get some inspirational entries. All entries will be due next Thursday January 12th at 9pm Eastern Standard Time.
MSPaint CONTEST: PENGUINS + BOLOGNA
MSPaint Contest!
The challenge: Using MSPaint draw a picture of a penguin eating a bologna sandwich.
Only a few entries this week, but I think the drawings speak for themselves! Surprisingly, no one went the batman penguin route. In order to make up for it, I whipped up a quick penguin batman photo for the headline. you can vote on that one too if you want, but there’s no bologna. As I had asked for drama, I included some notes below each penguin post that points out the dramatic nature of each MSPainting. Enjoy!
PENGUIN 1
Dynamic, evil penguin. This penguin could probably take darth vader.
Note the color gradient in the penguin’s mouth. Well done! this is not an easy thing to add to an MSPainting.
PENGUIN 2
Calm, happy penguin. This penguin is probably friends with Martha Stewart.
I like this one because of its loose flowing lines and the vibrant colors. It’s very friendly and MSPaintish.
PENGUIN 3
Cute, scared penguin. This penguin is afraid of butterflies.
The most worthy part of this picture is not the penguin at all, but the really awesome bologna!
PENGUIN 4
Sleak, artistic penguin. This penguin, in addition to lifelike shading, has amazing aerodynamics.
I appreciate the effort that went into coloring this, the most realistic looking, penguin.
PENGUIN 5
Worldy, traveled penguin. I think I’m going to ask the public to completely ignore the fact that part of this penguin is copied and pasted. Because the blatent C&Ping makes the picture that much better.
The eye is really good. Take a close look at it, and grasp the beauty.
And that’s that! 5 entries. 2 winners.
Vote for your favorite in each of these catagories
1. most dramatic
2. most inane
and while you’re at it, guess which is mine.
vote in the comments! and you’re not allowed to vote for your own.
MSPAINT v7.0
MSPaint Contest!
The challenge: Using only MSPaint (or mac equivalent) draw a picture of a penguin eating a bologna sandwich.
This one is a bit unique. While the concept is simple, I encourage participants to embrace the bologna. Give me passion. Give me humor. Give me drama. Give me spontaneity.
All entries are due by 9PM Eastern Standard Time next THURSDAY. That’s 6pm for your west coast folks. and something like 2 in the morning for our English counterparts.
e-mail your submissions to mikedidonato AT gmail DOT com.

welcome back for the sixth edition of mike d’s MSPaint contest. It was a short contest this week, but once again the public put out their best effort.
The challenge was to draw a picture of One or Multiple Turkey Commandos overtaking a Pilgrim or Pilgrim Compound using only MSPaint. A bonus point is given to each of the participants who successfuly included:
1. the flag of england
2. a graphing calculator
3. waldo. of where’s waldo.
A few people showed the flag of the United Kingdom instead of England… but that’s okay. We’ll consider it a learning opportunity.
here are the entries!
Turkey 1
Ohhh… this is definitely how it would happen. oh the irony!
Bonus point? CHECK!
Turkey 2
Wow, please note the obvious effort that this artist put into the fence and background buildings. The action scene that follows this shot would surely be one for the history books.
Bonus point? CHECK!
**UPDATE** I didn’t realize it at first, but this is Buckingham Palace. Check it out.
Turkey 3
“they came from above!” Frighteningly realistic.
Bonus point? NEGATIVE!

Thanks to everyone who participated in this week’s MSPaint contest. The challenge was to draw that which you would least expect to find at the other end of a rainbow. We only had nine entries, but there are still some excellent drawings in the bunch. Here goes!
Rainbow1
Nothing spells rainbow like death, destruction, and eternal suffering
Rainbow2
More death destruction and eternal suffering! ha ha
Rainbow3
What’s at the end of the rainbow? One Smelly Stinky Sock.
Rainbow4
Snakes on a Plane! five stars? That IS unexpected.
Rainbow5
The artist actually put some German in this. Well done!
Rainbow6
Tragic, yet poetic. Skydiver gone wrong.
Rainbow7
YES! NICE REFERENCE!
Rainbow8
What freaks me out the most is the cloud that looks like a cross
Rainbow9
I can’t deny that this would be extremely confusing if actually found.
Okay, you know the rules. Vote for your favorite 3 in the comments. And then if you want, give a bonus point for the most inane. You can’t vote for your own. Comment away!

CUPCAKE ARMAGEDDON #8 by Roland!
Great job! the shading is superb and thefacial features make me laugh every time.
Here’s a list of all the artists!
Cupcake 1: Jessica Abad/Jon Abad. Jon Cheated. Jess didn’t.
Cupcake 2: Lottie
Cupcake 3: Mr. Shaun McQuaid
Cupcake 4: Theresa (Inane bonus!)
Cupcake 5: Patrick
Cupcake 6: mike d. (2nd Place! woo!)
Cupcake 7: muffin man/Ben
Cupcake 8: Roland (1st Place! fantastic!)
Cupcake 9: Timmy (3rd place! So realistic!)
The inane bonus goes to cupcake 4. number 9 tied number 4, but since 9 also scored third place… it’s removed from the inane drawing.
Great job to all the artists, it was a very fun competition. Next week’s contest will be announced within the next few days. Feel free to e-mail me some suggestions if you have them.
CUPCAKE ARMAGEDDON!
I hope someone happens to find this entry someday by searching Google for “cupcake armageddon”
Okay! here they are. We had 9 entries this week. I think in the future I will stick with the full week of drawing time. 3 days was too quick to get more than a handful of entries.
Use the comments to vote for your favorite 3 mspaint images.
Because we only have so few entries, we’re going to skip the catagorical voting. But, if you’d like to throw out a bonus point for the most inane drawing, please do so.
Cupcake Armageddon #1
Note and appreciate the frosting on that delicious cupcake. Imminent doom is certain.
**Roland pointed out that transparent colors are impossible in MSPaint, as such this cupcake is impossible (please see comments). For this reason, here’s a modified version of Cupcake Armageddon #1
Also, I noticed something when I edited the Cupcake out. there’s a really small “No Cupcake” sign on the front left side of the shuttle. Hot!
Cupcake Armageddon #2
Charred bodies and laser cupcakes. Exactly the kind of thing we like to see in MSPaint.
Cupcake Armageddon #3
The background shading is really nice. I also like the airplane reference.
Cupcake Armageddon #4
What a wide variety of weapons those cupcakes boast. I think those cupcakes came from the grave. And I think they want to kill everybody.
Cupcake Armageddon #5
Excellent characitures of these celebrities. I do believe that’s Gollum on the left, and William Hung on the right.
Cupcake Armageddon #6
Stained Glass Cupcakes. Fun to look at! not to eat.
Cupcake Armageddon #7
I was told that carrots and broccoli are the mortal enemies of cupcakes. Please note the cupcake that was struck with an arrow on the right.
Cupcake Armageddon #8
RARR! I’ve never seen an angry cupcake quite like this. Please note the different clothes on the military vs. the civilians. Very impressive shading as well.
Cupcake Armageddon #9
No MSPainting has ever been so true.
Again, please vote for your favotire three (in order) in the comments and a bonus point for the most inane. You are not allowed to vote for your own drawing. Well done artists!

Well done everyone! Every single pirate got some votes. And I’m really pleased with how my scoring rubric worked out. So we’ll likely keep a similar voting system for the next contest. Thanks for participating! i hope you enjoyed the ridiculous pirates. The next topic will be up within the next week or so.
PIRATES!
The contest:
Using MSPaint, draw a picture of a pirate playing chess against a keg.
Most of the drawings are large. so if you’re using IE wait until the picture loads, then hold your mouse over the picture until the ‘expand’ button appears in the lower right. Click on that to view the picture in the proper resolution. OR, just view all the pictures in an expanded window.
We didn’t have quite the same participation as in the last few contests, but I suspect that this is because the topic was a little lackluster. I promise to put extra effort into the next contest topic!!
Entries (with brief commentary):
PIRATE 1
Please note the cost of the coffee items in the back. That’s right. Doubloons. Perfect.
PIRATE 2
Never has their been a better chess board drawn in MSPaint.
PIRATE 3
The sleeping pig? AWESOME. As is the fact that this pirate is a chick.
PIRATE 4
Czech Matey. heh heh. Very well drawn.
PIRATE 5
I really enjoy the ocean and scattering pieces. I keep finding myself looking at this one.

Sweeping brush strokes! I enjoy the fluidness and real feeling of motion.
PIRATE 10
The little keg man in the lower right is hilarious.
PIRATE 11
Space pirate Ho! I love the borg cube and the chess board. Very fun.
PIRATE 12
I don’t think the artist was proud of this… but I think it’s good.
PIRATE 13
The face is really well done! I also really like the text. nicely done.
VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE IN EACH OF THESE CATAGORIES:
1. MOST ARTISTIC
2. MOST CREATIVE
3. BEST MSPAINT HILARITY
Vote by leaving a comment - no voting for your own drawing!
Also, the point tallying methods will be changing slightly.
REMINDER!
REMINDER:
the deadline for the new MSPaint contest is tomorrow night at Midnight.
The Challenge: Using MSPaint draw a picture of a pirate playing chess against a keg.
I haven’t got nearly as many entries as the last contest. This might be because it’s not as cool of a topic… but what better opportunity to claim a prize than when there are fewer competitors.
Remember, thursday at midnight.
