Impact.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about impact. My friend Tony is getting married this Saturday. Now, four years ago, Tony was offered my current job while I was in London with TimBaird. Tony turned it down and instead worked for a company in Pennsylvania. This opened up the spot for me and had a huge impact on my life.

What would have changed?

Well, for one, I probably wouldn’t be in CT. The day that I accepted this job an opportunity opened up at GE in Lynn, MA. I wouldn’t have started any work for my MS and probably wouldn’t be doing the MBA. I would still be climbing because that started pre-CT. But I definitely wouldn’t be taking Kung Fu.

I might have a house, though houses up there are considerably more expensive than down here.

Things would be so different.

I find it fun to think about how much of our lives are decided by the decisions of others.

All this work has been destructive to the invoker.

Work and Academics have created a significant barrier to my levels of fitness.

Lunch: instead of going to the gym as I normally do… I’ve been working on work and working on homework

After work: instead of going to Kung Fu, I’ve been doing homework and going to class

It’s been really annoying. It’s like, I only have a certain number of skill points and I need to choose which abilities should be focused on. do I keep up with my academics and career? or do I get into super great shape. (pictorial representation of decision).

Writing this down has increased my determination to overcome this barrier. I will renew my efforts to maintain fitness, education, and career. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Back to the Grind?

Things at work are going surprisingly smoothly right now. I am excited about the projects that I’m working on and the general mood feels light, productive, and refreshing. I’ve had some great interactions with people both in and out of the company lately, so I’m feeling rather positive.

The D.C. trip went well. It’s a neat city… though far too… Doric? I felt refreshed by the more unique architecture of the museum of modern art.

Continuing on with the general update:

School has been decent. My MBA classes are wonderful, my convection class is tough. But more because I’ve missed two of the last three classes because of travel than anything else. Hopefully this weekend I’ll be able to catch up on that.

The House is terrible, but the repair day is getting closer every day. I hope we don’t have to enter the weekend without water.

I haven’t been to Kung Fu or gone rock climbing in over two weeks. This, I find frustrating. Hopefully both these things will change by the weekend (provided we get water first).

And… I guess that’s about it. How are you doing?

Heeey-o

Today is judgment day here in Texas. I’m hoping the day will go smoothly and that I’ll be able to return to the quiet life of CT in a very short time.

Texas is pretty warm, but not overwhelming. Yesterday it was in the 90’s and today is suppose to be about the same.

The food has been decent. Last night I went to a small little Cajun restaurant and I’m hoping to be able to escape the mayhem for a short time today to hit up some of the amazing BBQ that’s in town.

That’s about the extent of my personal plans for the day/week. A little BBQ and an early departure would be heaven.
