Yay science! My main research project focuses on a close relative of this gene, FOXO1, which has also been shown to facilitate the anti-aging phenomenon (at least in worms, for now). Turns out the FOXO genes are also master protectors of your cells that keep things in check when they get a little out of control and start dividing too fast. For this reason, cancer likes to turn off these genes. Tricky cancer, tricky.
