      The Weather Conspires Against Me

July 10th, 2008 by Ryan Schenk in Quickthoughts

I had surgery on my ankle 14 days ago, on June 26th. Looking back at the wind speed archives, it has been windy enough to kiteboard on 10 of those 14 days, or approximately 70% of the time I’ve been laid up. I guarantee you that when I heal, we will have no wind at […]

UUIG and I play certain games in the car, most notably the “slug bug” game, but only with the old Beetles and VW vans. UUIG and I play certain games in the car, most notably the “slug bug” game, but only with the old Beetles and VW vans. Seattle has a significant amount of older vee-dubs, especially around my neighborhood, which is home to the types of people who would own such vehicles. The 3-minute walk to the pub always results in some punching.

Another game that UUIG and I play is the “Mike D Rocks” game, but this really isn’t a city game. Whenever we drive out in the mountains, whoever sees a “ROCKS” sign first, shouts out “Mike D”, and other has to follow with “ROCKS” before we reach the sign.

      [school] Life [/school]

      currently eating: yogurt with granola

It’s pretty interesting to compare my life now, in the midst of school, to my life a few years ago when I was working without any part-time school. The things I think I miss most are nights without plans, more opportunities to cook, and casual reading.

Has it been worth it? Kind of. It’s excited to know more about what’s going on in the engineering and business worlds, but it’s frustrating that I can’t spend more time on those casual activities that rock so heavily. Is there anyone out there who did the part time school thing who now has kids? Are kids kind of like an 18 year long part-time MBA? Homework everynight… less time for yourself… you tell yourself it’s worth it, but at 3am on a Thursday night you can’t help but wonder…
