(I used to need cream and sugar in my coffee. Now I’m okay with just sugar)

Darn, you’re catching up to me. I ditched the cream first, but stuck to the sugar for years before I slowly built up tolerance to black coffee. Now I can’t stand sugar in it.

If you want to ditch the sugar, start by taking a sip of coffee before you sweeten it. It will taste terrible, but it’ll make the sweetened coffee seem too sweet. You’ll be sweetening less and less as you get to like the black coffee taste. Then you’ll join us on the Darkside.

On my CO climbing trip, I brought a French press for coffee. Until that point I had always had .5/.5 in my coffee or whole milk, but I sucked it up and dealt with drinking it black because we lacked refrigeration. By month’s end, I was used to drinking it black and couldn’t think of adding anything to it, which I stuck to until I stopped drinking it regularly, all together.
You just have to go cold turkey. Which is easy when there is no other options.
I quit smoking the same way.

but why would you get rid of the milk or cream?
i grew up with 50/50 coffee milk so black coffee is quite boring to me.

Good question! I don’t know. I think there’s something romantic about black coffee.

Don’t know about romantic, but it does have it’s appeal.

You wouldn’t add cream and sugar to your wine, would you?

Hey now, that might make wine drinkable.
